After installing system updates on 02/17/16 for Windows 10, the Surface Detach icon in the taskbar is grayed out and when I mouse over it, it says "Surface Detach: Detached" when it's actually attached and connected to the keyboard. Keyboard works fine but when I try to detach, I have to hold the keyboard detach button for over 10 seconds before the light turns green and I hear the detach sound.
Also, since this started happening, after detaching, the screen no longer rotates in Tablet Mode. Tried locking and unlocking Autorotation and nothing will rotate the screen anymore.
Not sure if these two problems are related.

FYI, your problems can likely be resolved by disabling fast startup. We are still waiting on an update from MS.

this is just getting ridiculous. has Microsoft even acknowledged the problem yet? it's been months now...
And, by the end of the day, it had gone away again. I didn't see any visible signs of any update that removed or damaged it again. Frustrating!
My Surface Book just did an automatic update on startup and the detach icon is back!

Yep, same here! Today (4.5.16) I've disabled fast start up, and I'm using hibernate instead of sleep. I'll update in a day or 2 to report any changes. I also have this file on my desktop Windows Update Troubleshooter for Windows 10, I run it when windows hello and/or the detached, (but not really detached) icon is popping up. It runs and after I restart my SB and it's fine for a few days. Its a huge pain in the butt... and I really hate that I have to do this, but until a REAL solution has been given, I do what I can to keep on keeping on.... I bought this back in October (online), so going to a store (1 hour away) isn't an option and since I'm on my 4th machine, I'll reserve my warranty for when I really need it! Thanks for all the suggestions from everyone so far, its kinda nice knowing I'm not the only one!
All of my settings in 'Power' are set to 'Never' and have been before this problem started. One of the updates late last year changed all settings to factory default. I reset them to what I wanted. I still have the problem everyone else is having. I don't believe the problem is here. It is in 'Update' in my experience. I am having 'Update' problems with my Microsoft Phone and Band 2. My phone keeps resetting to factory default every time I shut down or charge. My Band and Health app don't agree on the number of steps I take or the calories. It sometimes keeps counting when I have it off my wrist charging. I seem to be the only person who has the Band problems. I took it in to the store at U Village and they had not had anyone come it for this problem. The 'engineers' at MS Band are supposedly working on it and keep wanting me to get a new Band, but it was acknowledged that there was a problem when they reset the Band and the App and the numbers were still different.
These are all problems with 'Microsoft Update'.
