VPN Client Support

The info page for the new Samsung RT tablet - the ATIV tab - says:

Enterprise Solutions (upon request): Exchange ActiveSync, On-Device Encryption, Cisco VPN (Virtual Private Network), Juniper Junos Pulse VPN, EAS

But the Junos Pulse client is not in the Windows Store - so either Samsung has some exclusive deal with Juniper, or this is a "coming soon" feature.

I'd like an answer. As much as I love the Surface hardware, if I cannot get the last piece of the puzzle I need for work, the Pulse client, and it is available on another vendor's tablet, I'll need to think about switching.

I would really like an answer from Microsoft on this one.

And to re-confirm - the ATIV is a Windows 8 RT tablet, NOT a Windows 8 Pro tablet.

    Surface Windows RT DOES NOT support Cisco IPSec VPNs

    It doesn’t work for most Cisco VPN setups where the IT department has decided to use PSK authentication. Windows never natively supported the IPSec Identifier, or “Group Name” feature in Cisco VPNs, which would be the vast majority.

    Apple's OS-X  and iOS (Apple PC's and i-Devices such as iPhone, iPad, iPod etc. supports Cisco IPSec natively and has a field for Group Name, where Microsoft's VPN client does not have a field for Group Name thereby rendering it useless with Cisco IPSec VPNs. 

    On Windows RT, you cannot install the Cisco AnyConnect client.

    Hello everyone.

    We are aware that 3rd parties need specific API's to make VPN's and we are working on it.

    Thank you for contributing - great to know you've been reading, and will be addressing, the concerns. The Surface RT is a great piece of kit. I don't find the RT code or ARM, nor the app store, to be limiting.

    Adding VPN support for the big players will make this a complete offer and I look forward to using it as such.

    Actually, if you look in the Device Manager, you do see a TPM device, and as Bitlocker is used to encrypt the drive contents, this ties in with it having one.

     

    I saw a BitLocker option but assumed it was a remnant of the Windows 8 OS and not a "useable" function of RT.

    I had heard from my MS source that there was no TPM, but it's possible they were mistaken.

    Either way, VPN is possible with either MS's cooperation or the OEM vendor's development.
