VPN Client Support

The info page for the new Samsung RT tablet - the ATIV tab - says:

Enterprise Solutions (upon request): Exchange ActiveSync, On-Device Encryption, Cisco VPN (Virtual Private Network), Juniper Junos Pulse VPN, EAS

But the Junos Pulse client is not in the Windows Store - so either Samsung has some exclusive deal with Juniper, or this is a "coming soon" feature.

I'd like an answer. As much as I love the Surface hardware, if I cannot get the last piece of the puzzle I need for work, the Pulse client, and it is available on another vendor's tablet, I'll need to think about switching.

I would really like an answer from Microsoft on this one.

And to re-confirm - the ATIV is a Windows 8 RT tablet, NOT a Windows 8 Pro tablet.

    Actually, if you look in the Device Manager, you do see a TPM device, and as Bitlocker is used to encrypt the drive contents, this ties in with it having one.

     

    I saw a BitLocker option but assumed it was a remnant of the Windows 8 OS and not a "useable" function of RT.

    I had heard from my MS source that there was no TPM, but it's possible they were mistaken.

    Either way, VPN is possible with either MS's cooperation or the OEM vendor's development.

    Before things get out of hand - the Surface RT does not have a TPM chip (so I was told) - a mechanism for providing hardware-level encryption and key generation.

    Some Enterprises implement VPN policies that require a TPM. However, Android phones (and I believe iPhones) do NOT have TPM either, yet support VPN connectivity.

    Yes and.....  Since I am in IT and manage my own network, I just spoke with a SonicWall rep basically saying the same thing.  Here's his email to me...

    "It appears that I was a bit hasty yesterday.  The support we have currently for windows 8 is only through net extender on the pc platforms.  I'm told that in fact Microsoft hasn't approved any third party vpn's for their devices at all.  We are still awaiting their approval.

    FWIW, the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client for W-RT on Surface would be of value to me and five others in my company.

    We currently run this client on W7 laptops.
