Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter with Surface Pro 3 Resolution Problem

My Surface Pro 3 is fully updated with the latest firmware and updates and the wireless display also has the latest updates.

When I have my bluetooth on and I connect to the wireless display adapter, my TV's max resolution that I can set is 1366 x 768 but when I turn my bluetooth off first and then connect to the wireless display adapter I can set my TV to 1920 x 1080.

It's kind of annoying to have to turn bluetooth off first before I connect to my tv. Is there something I can do to fix this issue?

Thanks Barb. It never dawned on me that the USB ports would loose power when the SP3 was disconnected. Years ago I had a Targus dock for my Toshiba clamshell pc. The USB port on that dock remained powered even when the pc was disconnected. This functionality was very helpful when I needed to charge something while using the pc away from the dock.

If you have any influence with the MSFT powers-that-be tell them that most monitors do not have USB ports (nor do TVs that are more than a few years old). I looked at all of the monitors at BestBuy and could not find one with a USB port. Thinking I had missed something I asked one of the techs and was told that my observations were true....none of their monitors have USB ports. Next I called the MSFT store and you guessed it.....they don't carry a monitor with a USB port!

The USB cord on the MWDA is very short. Too short to reach my power. The brick on the MSFT docking station does not have the auxiliary USB port.

So now I have the MWDA USB connected to the regular brick on my SP1 which sits next to the SP3 and all is almost right with the world. If only MSFT and Intel would admit their mistake.........

I've found that almost all the USB wall warts I have (apple stuff, fitbit, jawbone, garmin, etc.) work just fine with the MWDA. So I use that. I bought a USB extension cable from Amazon for around $5.00 (maybe less). 9 feet as I recall.

If this it is intel that blocked things, this is weird because I use windows 10 with my surface pro 3 with the latest firmware build 10162. FullHD works fine with Bluetooth. Let me repeat IT WORKS WITH WINDOWS 10!

    1. what is the version of the Intel Video driver?
    2. what Bluetooth devices are attached to the SP3?
