OK, here's what I don't understand - WHY are you trying to change the

resolution. The Miracast protocol should negotiate all of this. And note with

Miracast, you can only have one display resolution for both monitors.

The way it should work is that when you connect to the MWDA, the TV should

display at 1980 x 1020 and the Surface Pro 3 should also change to 1980 x 1020.

When you disconnect, the SP3 will go back to its native resolution.

Are you trying to say that when you do this automatically that the Sony will NOT

connect at 1980 x 1020?

Steps to connect with Miracast: Charms, Devices, Project - and then select your

MWDA. Don't do anything else. What happens?

I'm having the Exact same problem. I'm also using it to extend my desktop. I have Surface Pro 3 i7-256GB, an ASUS VE276Q (1080p) Monitor and on bluetooth are Surface Pen and a LogiLink Mouse (not the arc touch because it's ugly and doesn't have side buttons for navigation, which are essential for me and it's too expensive)

I can connect in 1080p as long as Bluetooth is turned off. When the Monitor is set to 1080p and I turn Bluetooth on, it disconnects the monitor. When I reconnect manually it only works in 1366x768, which is awful on a 27".

I tried the exact same setup with a Lenovo Flex2-15 and it all worked totally fine.

Reason: Bluetooth and WiFi adapters are 2 seperate devices rather than one single adapter like the SP3 has.

Another problem is: When I use it as desktop extention, the mouse's cursor stays stuck on the Monitor's border while the "real" cursor is on the screen of my SP3.

Conclusion: 

****, Microsoft!?!? Why are you selling a device that doesn't work with your own devices? Why is the Stup-App for 16+ Years and why do I have to set a Password to set it up? Why did you even mention FullHD in it's Product-Page?

Thanks Barb, that you tried, but The questions I quoted above are self-answering. In an age, where 4K is getting a thing and 1920x1080 (not 1980x1020) is pretty much a standard by now, we should expect it to work.

They should at least acknowledge, but there isn't anything they can do. Intel deliberately made a change in the driver they supply to Microsoft for the SP3 that lowers the screen resolution when Bluetooth other than the Surface Pen is in use. They've done this even for the 5GHz band which is nuts because that won't interfere with Bluetooth. I suspect that there is a lot of politics on this between MS and Intel involved here which means Microsoft won't comment in any venue.

I'm not getting anywhere with internal contacts on this one either.

The 19th May Firmware Update seems to have resolved this issue for me. Resolution is 2160 x 1440 before and after connection. That is with the pen, two different bluetooth mice connected (not at the same time) and a bluetooth keyboard.

That is very strange. Are you saying that when duplicate is selected, the target TV has a resolution of 2160 x 1440? I would expect 1920 x 1080 on the TV at best.

The testing I did here showed no change:

1. if bluetooth mouse was connected prior to initiating the casting session, screen res was reduced to 1376 x 768 on both the Surface and the TV.
2. if bluetooth mouse was connected AFTER the casting session was in progress both devices were at 1920 x 1080.

No. I'm an idiot. It still doesn't bl * * * * work. My test were not complete. I got too excited it was working and forgot to fully test it.

However with the pen only connected it does work as it should (tv and Surface at 1920x1080 in duplicate mode). I wouldn't swear but i'm fairly certain that didn't work at those resolutions before.
