Micorosoft Surface RT won't connect to microsoft account or updat

Hi there,

I have tried to sign into my Microsoft Account to connect the Surface RT, but every time it ends up with a message : "Sorry, we couldn't connect to Microsoft services right now. If this problem persists, search for "network problems" on the Start screen"

I have checked the clock, which is one of the culprits as per the forums, but i don't see any problem with it.

I have reset the surface to see if that would reset something but same result.

I have Run the WSReset.exe to same result.

I do not know what to do, without the Microsoft login, I can not do anything through the Microsoft Store.

Cheers,

Mohammad

Hi Mohammad,

We are aware that there are customers experiencing issues with Windows RT/8.1 devices connecting to their Microsoft accounts. Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

In the meantime, please continue to use your local Windows login account for the time being. You may try to reattach your Microsoft account as a connected account at a later time.

We appreciate your understanding. Feel free to post back if you need further assistance.

Regards.

Mod Edit: Marking as answered to raise visibility.

(Update 10/11/17) A change was implemented on 10/10 that should resolve this issue.

For Surface Pro original and Surface Pro 2, there have never been Windows 10

recovery images. Microsoft only makes available if the specific device was sold

with that OS. So for these folks, their only option if they upgraded to 10 and

need to recover is to use the 8.1 recovery image and upgrade again. (Yes,

advanced users can possibly use the MCT to do this, but the Surface Specific

drivers aren't in that generic image and it is a problem).

Further, I personally used a recovery image on an original SP about a month ago

with a friend and had no issues like this and set up with her MS account. Then

we upgraded to 10 without issue.

it would appear this is a Windows 8/8.1 issue as a whole, not just RT. Can anybody else confirm this?

That sounds like it could be more of a licensing and activation issue.   E.g. since that machine was upgraded to W10 it would no longer be licensed for W8.1 hence appear not activated when using W8.1.   So what would the Store do in that case?...

Hmm...  Not an answer to my question but some serendipity--some ideas for possible diagnostics

Spoke with the MS/Surface support people. -- This is a known problem with Microsoft's back-end systems.  It is not an update problem or an RT problem on individual RT machines.  Supposedly MS's engineers have been made aware of it and are working on a fix but there is no estimated time.  So do not mess around with RT on a machine to try a work around.  I am old enough and have invested in enough orphaned MS tech over the years (WP, Zune....) to be wary of anything and everything.  I remember when they shut down the WP6.x App store soon after WP7, et al.  I wouldn't be shocked if in the next months there will come the "$100 coupon on a new Surface Pro for any machine that cant be upgraded to W10" deal, like with XP -- i.e. RT machines.  Just a hunch, but I trust MS as 'bout as much as I trust DT.

Sadly, my emails are going unanswered.
