Micorosoft Surface RT won't connect to microsoft account or updat

Hi there,

I have tried to sign into my Microsoft Account to connect the Surface RT, but every time it ends up with a message : "Sorry, we couldn't connect to Microsoft services right now. If this problem persists, search for "network problems" on the Start screen"

I have checked the clock, which is one of the culprits as per the forums, but i don't see any problem with it.

I have reset the surface to see if that would reset something but same result.

I have Run the WSReset.exe to same result.

I do not know what to do, without the Microsoft login, I can not do anything through the Microsoft Store.

Hi Mohammad,

We are aware that there are customers experiencing issues with Windows RT/8.1 devices connecting to their Microsoft accounts. Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

In the meantime, please continue to use your local Windows login account for the time being. You may try to reattach your Microsoft account as a connected account at a later time.

(Update 10/11/17) A change was implemented on 10/10 that should resolve this issue.

    I am also having the exact same issue, and have been unable to find a resolution.   I also did a full factory reset, as rotated above with no success.

    this is new information, you didn't state it was a local account. You started

    this thread with "after resetting it to factory defaults and trying to set it up

    with my Microsoft account I find it will not connect".

    verify that the NEW account you created has administrative privileges. then log

    off the existing account. log into the NEW account and remove ALL other

    accounts. restart. log into the NEW account. now create another account using

    the Microsoft ID you are having trouble with.

    Please provide exact step by step details of what happens if this fails.

    Following an update several days ago, this device stopped accessing mail, onedrive etc. As it's never been reset, I figured this would be a good time to give it a spring clean and so reset it to default after which I could not get it to sign into the Microsoft Account (either immediately during the setup process or later after creating a local account and bringing it up to date on updates and then adding the MS account. The error is always the same - can't connect to Microsoft services at the moment.

    I've looked at several forum posts and tried various suggestions but to no avail - the various troubleshooters don't pick up any errors, I can login to the MS account online without problem and there's nothing else obviously wrong with the device. I've reset the device (and updated each time) 3 times in total with the last time via a USB recovery drive loaded with the recovery images downloaded from MS site, just in case the issue was in the local recovery partitiion - nothing has changed the problem at all.

    It got me thinking whether there is something at MS end that is preventing the device from accessing MS service? It can't be the MS id as I don't get as far as putting that in.

    No, it still does not connect to Windows update. It just searches and th gives and error.

    The account works fine on my laptop, Lumia 950XL and desktop.

    The Surface RT doesn't give me the chance to enter any account info. As soon as I click convert local account to Microsoft account it says it cannot connect. The internet however works fine on it so no network issues. I can create as many new Microsoft accounts as I like but cannot add any existing ones.

    along with the fact I cannot update it makes the rt rather unusable.
