Micorosoft Surface RT won't connect to microsoft account or updat

Hi there,

I have tried to sign into my Microsoft Account to connect the Surface RT, but every time it ends up with a message : "Sorry, we couldn't connect to Microsoft services right now. If this problem persists, search for "network problems" on the Start screen"

I have checked the clock, which is one of the culprits as per the forums, but i don't see any problem with it.

I have reset the surface to see if that would reset something but same result.

I have Run the WSReset.exe to same result.

I do not know what to do, without the Microsoft login, I can not do anything through the Microsoft Store.

Cheers,

Mohammad

Hi Mohammad,

We are aware that there are customers experiencing issues with Windows RT/8.1 devices connecting to their Microsoft accounts. Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

In the meantime, please continue to use your local Windows login account for the time being. You may try to reattach your Microsoft account as a connected account at a later time.

We appreciate your understanding. Feel free to post back if you need further assistance.

Regards.

Mod Edit: Marking as answered to raise visibility.

(Update 10/11/17) A change was implemented on 10/10 that should resolve this issue.

Do you have any more news on this yet?

I had to reset my wifes Surface Pro 2 yesterday which was running Windows 10 fine, I reset it using the onboard recovery which rolled it back to Windows 8.1 pro and found that it had this exact same issue of not connecting to a Microsoft account and only being able to have a local user. I then upgraded it to Windows 10 and it signed in absolutely fine. So it would appear this is a Windows 8/8.1 issue as a whole, not just RT. Can anybody else confirm this?

why wouldn't this upgrade on its own?

That's the big question which if we had the answer for we might be able to devise a simpler workaround than the ones that people are already using.   My guess would be that there is a retry limit being exceeded somewhere but without access to source or support documentation and without as many useful diagnostics or install options as non-RT users we can only speculate.

    Good luck

    Robert

Ok so I'll do a manual install and let you know, why wouldn't this upgrade on its own?

Could this have been in the ico image the MS store gave me.

I looked for the version number of the image, this is what I found. 9200.16551.armfre-win8_gdr.130306-1502
