Bit Locker Recovery Key Requested at Boot Time

Hi,

At the weekend our two Surface 2 devices got a firmware update installed. My Surface 2 updated and rebooted fine with no issues.

But my wife's Surface 2 (64GB model) asked for the Bitlocker Recovery key at boot after the update, and now every time it reboots. Although I have the key this is very poor end user experience.

Especially as I am trying to sell her the Surface 2 over an iPad.

Any assistance in this would be most welcome.

Hi,

Microsoft released an update for this today, for Surface 2 devices, as reflected in KB article 2921482.  Please check for Windows updates and install the latest updates.

Here's how to check for updates manually:

Step 1: Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Settings.   (If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and then click Settings.)

Step 2: Tap or click Change PC settings, tap or click Update and recovery, and then tap or click Windows Update. 

Step 3: Tap or click Check now. 

Step 4: If there are updates available, tap or click View details. 

Step 5: Tap or click to select the ones you want to install, and then tap or click Install.  You may need to restart Surface after the updates have been installed.

    Are you getting the PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error in conjunction with the Bitlocker issue like we are? Try repeatedly rebooting it, over and over again. With any luck, it will eventually progress far enough to run Windows Update. Apply all available updates.

    Yes, it would be nice to hear something from Microsoft on this besides the one response that doesn't seem to apply to RT.

    This happens to me every time the battery runs out. If I am travelling, I take only one computer. If my Surface decides to run out of battery, I guess I'm history. A power point is not always handy. 

    There is no option to turn bit locker off and one cannot hang around waiting for the battery to run out and then shut the Surface off. Besides, If that's the solution, what good is it having a tablet?

    What's poor old aunt Martha gonna do when this happens to her?

    I don't understand why there is no fix for this yet. My Surface ((RT) is 6 months old and still no fix.

    This Surface 2 is a nightmare (purchased in France in December 2013).

    Beyond this stupid need of encryption for addressing a trivial use by my wife, after the recovery procedure (supposedly...) , the PC first said "you need to restart", and then "it cannot restart for some error with changing exotic codes" , and finally , it staid waiting indefinitely...

    Me too, consequently, I would like to sell it for anything else... Congratulations Microsoft !!!
