Bit Locker Recovery Key Requested at Boot Time

Hi,

At the weekend our two Surface 2 devices got a firmware update installed. My Surface 2 updated and rebooted fine with no issues.

But my wife's Surface 2 (64GB model) asked for the Bitlocker Recovery key at boot after the update, and now every time it reboots. Although I have the key this is very poor end user experience.

Especially as I am trying to sell her the Surface 2 over an iPad.

Any assistance in this would be most welcome.

Kind Regards,

Andrew

Hi,

Microsoft released an update for this today, for Surface 2 devices, as reflected in KB article 2921482.  Please check for Windows updates and install the latest updates.

Here's how to check for updates manually:

Step 1: Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Settings.   (If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and then click Settings.)

Step 2: Tap or click Change PC settings, tap or click Update and recovery, and then tap or click Windows Update

Step 3: Tap or click Check now

Step 4: If there are updates available, tap or click View details

Step 5: Tap or click to select the ones you want to install, and then tap or click Install.  You may need to restart Surface after the updates have been installed.

Thanks!

I had the same issue, I didn't have the time to devote to completing this restore. 2 hours later when I came back to my Surface 2, it was still displaying:

:(   Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart.  We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you. (0% complete)

I was going to let it 'complete' gathering data but it doesn't appear that it's really 'gathering' data... Not sure if forcing the restart would damage anything. But reading this thread it appears that is the only recourse.

    Microsoft, anything??

I am glad I am not the only one.  the last two times I rebooted same thing happened. I only let my sit for 90 minutes before forcing a reboot.

I talked with Microsoft Surface support people in Sweden today and they say they are very aware of this problem and are working on a fix/firmware update to solve it. So as long is it doesn't take too long for the fix to come out I'm going to live with the problem as it's not happening that frequently and when it does I simply type in the Bitlocker key again and I'm back in business.

I too have suffered this problem.  Only had the device for 5 weeks, and I also reset my 'trusted PC' a couple of weeks ago.

As a result, I cannot access my 'Bitlocker Recovery Key' until the end of December!   So I'm effectively locked out of my Surface2

Is there any other way of accessing this key?  Because right now, I cannot do anything with it apart from hard rebooting, and seeing the same blue-screen telling my to use a key
