Surface Pen or Multi-touch not working after Fall Creators update is installed on Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book

After installing the new fall creator update, my surface pro 4 pen no longer writes, erases or interacts with the screen at all. All the buttons function normally. I used the Microsoft diagnostic trouble tree which had me replace batteries re-install the device, which did nothing. Is anyone else having this issue after the Fall Creator update installed, and if so do you have a solution? Thanks.

Hi everyone,

Today, we released an update to the Intel® Precise Touch driver (Intel Corporation – HIDClass – 1.2.0.99). This driver resolves an issue where after Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book wakes from sleep, the touch driver will no longer respond to multi-touch input (like pinch to zoom) or the pen does not write.

We recommend that you install the latest updates to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

    It *does* work for me, Barb -- both the Pen and pinch-to-zoom work after disabling and re-enabling the Precise Touch driver, though when I went to use my Pen again after 25 minutes, neither feature worked (no notification of a driver failure, etc.).  Appreciate your Windows Insider MVP service by making the internal contact!

    Just my opinion, but I'd hang on to that Surface Book.  When I first bought my Surface Book in the summer of 2016, Microsoft was *highly* responsive to Surface-specific bugs.  Hands down the best laptop I've ever owned, so I'm a big Surface Book fan.  In this same post, MVP Barb found a workaround -- take a look.  Not the most convenient, but I'm thinking MSFT will continue to be responsive to quashing bugs with their signature hardware.

    Thank you for keeping us in the loop.

    In the previous link we provided, you need to look for the .msi file. It includes the latest drivers and firmware for your Surface Pro 4. It will install all drivers automatically.

    Please let us know what happens after. We're here in case you need more help.

    i will do this tonight, hopefully it will work as a short term fix until it gets fixed.

    Just unsure whether i should return my SB and keep the old pro 4 ....
