Surface Pen or Multi-touch not working after Fall Creators update is installed on Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book

After installing the new fall creator update, my surface pro 4 pen no longer writes, erases or interacts with the screen at all. All the buttons function normally. I used the Microsoft diagnostic trouble tree which had me replace batteries re-install the device, which did nothing. Is anyone else having this issue after the Fall Creator update installed, and if so do you have a solution? Thanks.

Hi everyone,

Today, we released an update to the Intel® Precise Touch driver (Intel Corporation – HIDClass – 1.2.0.99). This driver resolves an issue where after Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book wakes from sleep, the touch driver will no longer respond to multi-touch input (like pinch to zoom) or the pen does not write.

We recommend that you install the latest updates to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

You can find the details of the latest update on our Surface update history page.

Greg

    Hi all,

I have the same issues described above, except i have a surface 3

Pinch to zoom works fine-- but the surface pen doesnt write. It's paired, I've tried the "trouble shooting and hardware" run and that didnt solve the issue. Restarting the device didnt start the issue. I actually went and got a new surface pen-- the new one conncected and worked for about 1 week and I'm back to square one-- the pen doesnt write. Any advice?

I'm a medical student and can't function without this thing. PLEASE help. Thanks!

As I mentioned nearly one month ago my solution is to take an old driver I found in the device manager.

2 weeks ago I had to go back to a backup I made last summer without the creators update.

Everything with pinch to zoom and the pen worked fine until I got the creators update.

After that I had the same issue with the pen again.

So I reverted to the elder driver and ... it works since then.

I tried later to switch to the latest driver for the touch device from December but with no success.

So I switched back to the old driver from july 2016.

Since then I have no problems.

My conclusion is, that the actual Intel - drivers are rubbish and there is no real solution since more than 2 months.

    Hi everybody,

got the same problem (pen not working  as well as zoom) after creator update.

after a cuple doing research I found this:

    https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/surface/2017/12/08/updates-for-surface-book-07-december-2017/

I installed the the drivers, restarted my surface-book and hey....it worked...and it still works for me.

I turned my surface book of, restarted it, woke it up from sleep ;) ... and it still worked!

So I hope that this may help!

    Best regards
