Surface Pen or Multi-touch not working after Fall Creators update is installed on Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book

After installing the new fall creator update, my surface pro 4 pen no longer writes, erases or interacts with the screen at all. All the buttons function normally. I used the Microsoft diagnostic trouble tree which had me replace batteries re-install the device, which did nothing. Is anyone else having this issue after the Fall Creator update installed, and if so do you have a solution? Thanks.

Hi everyone,

Today, we released an update to the Intel® Precise Touch driver (Intel Corporation – HIDClass – 1.2.0.99). This driver resolves an issue where after Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book wakes from sleep, the touch driver will no longer respond to multi-touch input (like pinch to zoom) or the pen does not write.

We recommend that you install the latest updates to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

You can find the details of the latest update on our Surface update history page.

Greg

For those who are following this issue:

As of this past Tuesday night, the issue referenced in this thread still had not been resolved, requiring a workaround that has become tedious because of the fact that I never know how long it will last (for example, I can use the workaround in class when I realize that my touchscreen is no longer responsive, but I don't realize that the responsiveness has been lost again 45 minutes or an hour later until I need it and it's not there).  I've been monitoring the Surface Book Update History page (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4023488/surface-surface-book-update-history) waiting to see that a driver update is available.

However, I have been receiving Surface Book updates that are not listed on this page, but appear to be listed on the Surface Book 2 Update History site (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4055398/surface-book-2-update-history).  What's more, I received a couple of updates today (Intel Corporation - HIDCLass 1.2.0.99 and Intel Corporation - System 9.21.0.2853) that aren't included on the Surface Book Update History page, so I'm left uncertain as to whether or not the issue referenced in this initial post has been resolved?

If anyone from MSFT is reading this, perhaps original Surface Book updates should be merged into the Surface Book 2 update page?

I was so happy with MSFT's responsiveness to system issues after making a significant investment in my Surface Book (the "significant" part comes from the 1 TB SSD), but have been repeatedly disappointed since the touchscreen issue started and the extremely slow pace of resolution given that this is MSFT's OEM equipment.  Now I don't know where to find the update history because it appears that Microsoft has dropped my equipment's updates in favor of everyone who are buying Surface Book 2.  Please do a better job, Microsoft!  You're turning a Surface evangelist sour.

It seems as I found a solution.

I changed the driver of the Intel precise touch - driver to the older one yesterday.

    Since then it works.

Go to the device manager and select install driver.

Select to install the driver manually from a list and take the older one.

I hope, that the automatic update does not change this again.

have a real problem as my pen will not work unless I do a hard restart each time. this is not perfect with client waiting to see me and my work!  I've bought a new pen thinking this was the problem but we have a major issue.
