Surface Pen or Multi-touch not working after Fall Creators update is installed on Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book

After installing the new fall creator update, my surface pro 4 pen no longer writes, erases or interacts with the screen at all. All the buttons function normally. I used the Microsoft diagnostic trouble tree which had me replace batteries re-install the device, which did nothing. Is anyone else having this issue after the Fall Creator update installed, and if so do you have a solution? Thanks.

Hi everyone,

Today, we released an update to the Intel® Precise Touch driver (Intel Corporation – HIDClass – 1.2.0.99). This driver resolves an issue where after Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book wakes from sleep, the touch driver will no longer respond to multi-touch input (like pinch to zoom) or the pen does not write.

We recommend that you install the latest updates to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

    I am having the same issue since installing the Fall Creators Update.  It is NOT an issue with the Pen, its Bluetooth connection or the battery level, all of which I have successfully eliminated via troubleshooting.  For some reason, the screen of my Surface Book no longer recognizes the Pen's on-screen input several hours after rebooting.  The only fix is to reboot, which is not always convenient...in that case, the Pen will work until the machine sits idle for a while (the machine is not set to sleep or hibernate).  Have also had issues since Fall Creators Update where Windows Hello won't work because the machine doesn't recognize the onboard front camera as being installed...again, a reboot usually does the trick.

    Hoping Mark Ole from Microsoft will escalate the issue.

    Just going to echo what Sean wrote.

    Having the same issue, and it seems to occur after idle (lid closed or sleep) times. The only fix is to restart the computer. Microsoft Support was not able to resolve my issue, and the fix they provided only worked as well as a restart (and probably was due to the restart they initiated): the problem came right back later that day.

    Microsoft please fix this core feature of the Surface...

    Rather annoying as ive never had this problem with my surface pro 3 nor pro 4?

    How have they managed to cock it up so badly when surface pro 3 and 4 run smoothly yet run off same tech?

    Really annoying!!

    So annoying that I decided to go back to the previous version (via the recovery option) and pause updates for the next 35 days: I need to be able to write on the screen, that's what I bought the Surface Book for!

    Let's see if tomorrow after some use still works or the problem reappears (fingers crossed).
