Surface Pen or Multi-touch not working after Fall Creators update is installed on Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book

After installing the new fall creator update, my surface pro 4 pen no longer writes, erases or interacts with the screen at all. All the buttons function normally. I used the Microsoft diagnostic trouble tree which had me replace batteries re-install the device, which did nothing. Is anyone else having this issue after the Fall Creator update installed, and if so do you have a solution? Thanks.

Hi everyone,

Today, we released an update to the Intel® Precise Touch driver (Intel Corporation – HIDClass – 1.2.0.99). This driver resolves an issue where after Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book wakes from sleep, the touch driver will no longer respond to multi-touch input (like pinch to zoom) or the pen does not write.

We recommend that you install the latest updates to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

    Hi Hanny,

    If your Surface Pen no longer interacts with the screen, replacing the battery usually resolves the issue.

    If replacing he battery doesn't resolve the issue, you may try these solutions:

    Restart your Surface device.

    If after restarting the device doesn't work, force shutdown the device.

    1. Press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds and then release it.
    2. Press and hold the volume-up button and the power button at the same time for at least 15 seconds and then release both. The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15 seconds.
    3. After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds.
    4. Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You should see the Surface logo.

    Pair your Surface Pen.

    1. On Surface Pen, press and hold the top button until the LED light blinks to make it discoverable.
    2. On your PC, select the Start  button, then select Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
    3. Make sure Bluetooth is on, then select Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth. Choose Surface Pen in the list of devices. Follow any other instructions if they appear, then select Done.

    Run Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter.

    1. Type Troubleshooting in the search box, click Troubleshooting.
    2. Under Hardware and Sound, choose Configure a device. The Hardware Troubleshooter will open.
    3. Click on Next to run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter.
    4. Choose the one you want to fix and click on Next. The Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter will try to fix the problem with the pen.

    Does pinch to zoom fail as well when in this condition? others have found that

    going into device manager and disabling/enabling the "Intel(R) Precise Touch

    Device" in device manager made both the pen and the multi-touch work again. Open

    device manager,  Click on human interface devices to expand it and it should be

    near the bottom of the list.

    Hey all,

    I am having the same issue here. Back of pen works(eraser), but it does not write!This is an issue because I am an artist! I need my SB to function properly. This issue only occurred after the Fall creator update. It is not the pen battery. I tried my other pen that has never been used and still have the same issue. The trouble shooting recommendations microsoft advises do not help. I am going to roll back the update as some of you have said that this fixes the issue.
