Surface Pen or Multi-touch not working after Fall Creators update is installed on Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book

After installing the new fall creator update, my surface pro 4 pen no longer writes, erases or interacts with the screen at all. All the buttons function normally. I used the Microsoft diagnostic trouble tree which had me replace batteries re-install the device, which did nothing. Is anyone else having this issue after the Fall Creator update installed, and if so do you have a solution? Thanks.

Hi everyone,

Today, we released an update to the Intel® Precise Touch driver (Intel Corporation – HIDClass – 1.2.0.99). This driver resolves an issue where after Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book wakes from sleep, the touch driver will no longer respond to multi-touch input (like pinch to zoom) or the pen does not write.

We recommend that you install the latest updates to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

You can find the details of the latest update on our Surface update history page.

Greg

    You say...

    It's a trick - unfortunately no solution!

I hope MS will solve this soon.

Your skepticism was well-placed. The problem was still there the next morning.

    Nice, thks for the answer,

I'm not so far with the 16/512GB version, and 1st dGPU version.

But I'm not insider at all with this machine... (though had FCU the day it goes FCS)

I'll consider go insider preview in this machine too if it's confirmed this is the key to 1.2.0.99 as it's so much annoying.

Regarding Embedded Intel GPU driver mainly got issues when multi-screened and with apps scaling because of high pixel density in SB screen => mainly unexpected latency & sometimes redraw issues.

I'll probably have a test on a newer version soon (SBv2 version maybe).

Regarding pen: I'll update here according to upcoming updates.

Hardware is gen 1 Surface Book with i7-6600U, 8 Gb RAM, and 256GB SSD.

I am an Insider (its how I got the FCU before any fix went out) but only "Insider Preview" ring (listed as "Just send me early updates"). I was rather eager to get my hands on the don't-call-it-placeholder-files OneDrive feature.

I got the same Intel GPU driver btw. Don't appear to be any issues for me, aside from some slowdown during start up. (which could be pined on the Docker start up task, given that it fails 50% of the time under FCU. -_- )
