The Windows botton won't work on my Surface Pro

The "Windows" button on my Surface Pro won't work nor will the Windows button on the type pad.  The button on Surface will vibrate when touched but nothing happens.  On Surface RT, it took me back to the start screen.

Greetings HeleneGuilfoy,

Sorry to hear about your experience. Please try the following:

  • A 2-button shutdown
  1. Press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds.
  2. Press and hold the Volume-up button and the Power button on your Surface at the same time for at least 15seconds, and then release both.The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15seconds.
  3. After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds.
  4. Press and release the power button on your Surface to turn it back on.

Greetings Peng,

Before exchanging your Surface, please try the following:

  1. Power off the Surface Pro
  2. Hold Volume Up and the Power button for 10 seconds
  3. Release buttons
  4. Wait 5-10 seconds
  5. Power on the Surface

Please be aware, these steps ONLY work on a Surface Pro, or Surface Pro 2.

If the above steps do not get the Windows Button to work, please continue with the Exchange.

Make sure to search on windows search(slide the right side of your tablet & search)

Step 1: search "turn filter keys of or on"

Step 2: make sure it is off

This should get your windows touch button working(:

Or

Step 1:Go to control panels

Step 2:Under ease of access click on "change how your keyboard works"

Step 3:Under the "make it easier to type" category the "turn on filter key" should be checked off

Hi, I talked with surface support as my keyboard quit working too. It turns out the surface is not recognizing drivers and I tried again today to reset but its not doing it. Thankfully my surface is going o be exchanged. Thanks

Thanks Steven. This is CRAZY. It started working late last night!! I had taken it off power and disconnected the type keyboard. I have no idea if these steps had anything to do with the functionality returning or not. Going to save my experience and your suggestion in case it happens again.

I would suggest putting your Surface in for repair. You can do this yourself hereor by contacting Surface Technical Support.

    Hello Hugo,

    After trying to contact the Technical Support Team by chat, Microsoft told me I'll no longer have support because I'm here in Brazil and MS didn't lounched the Surface here.

    I explained that I bought it in a Best Buy Store in Miami during vacation last this month and that I don't have an U.S address or knows anybody there in U.S who can post it to repair.

    Is terrible to hear that dispide Microsoft have office and support for other products here in Brazil, they refuse to interview and/or help me to solve my problem with my Microsoft Surface Pro.

    I've been waiting for a long time to buy it and now that I got one (with bugs cause by software I'm sure) MS completely refuse to support me.

    If Microsoft could at least send me a CD/DVD or send me an on-line link to download a full copy the Windows Image with all the Surface Installed, I think will be enougth. The Windows 8 it self is not the problem, the problem is that microsoft doesn't provides us a decent driver instalation package.

    I already tryed to install the following driver package (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=38826) on a fresh new windows 8 instalation downloaded from my msdn account but any of the acessories of the device workes (not the "Windows Button", neigther the "Pen", neighter the "TypeCover", "Volume Buttons", "Acelerometers".... Nothing. Just the windows and the multitouch screen.

    Please send me a copy of my surface pro recovery image!

    Its simple like that to maintain the customer satisfaction.
