Surface Pro 3 - Windows 10 - WiFi (slow or limited connectivity )

Have a Surface Pro 3 that worked fine till I updated to Win10.  Now the wireless connection seems to randomly go to a "limited connectivity" mode.  Fortunately was purchased from Costco a coupe of weeks ago so it is going back there if we can't get this figured out by Sunday.

The Surface Pro3 is a flagship device - why in the world would you subject your customers to have to resort to looking for help in forums like this?

Everyone,

Build 10586 - the November Windows 10 update - was released yesterday, and it contains a newer Marvell wireless driver 15.68.9032.47 - people are reporting that this greatly improves wireless connectivity. Please download the large update, and if you used the registry hack, reverse it as follows:

Press Windows button. Search for regedit. Open it

  1. Navigate to the following path:

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\mrvlpcie8897

  1. Find the item labeled “TXAMSDU”. Double tap and modify the value from 0 to 1
  2. Restart the machine

Then test your connectivity, and post results.

Fred,

the November Windows 10 update to build 10586 has new wireless drivers. Can you download and install the update (it should be offered via WU) and let us know if this changes your connectivity?

These kinds of issues WERE present on 8.1 for months but they mostly all cleared after several driver updates.

And that particular router is not one known to exhibit slow wifi. I'm suggesting you trade it because it is SP new and you can now get one with 10 pre-installed and not have to go through an upgrade AND because you have this issue. Getting it swapped will rule out a hardware issue and would be a step forward.

This is what *I* would do if in this situation.

For what it's worth - Microsoft needs to fix the driver and any underlying Win 10 OS issues. It took them 9 months to get a "good" Windows 8.1 wireless driver.      when I'm typing, it takes a few seconds for the keystrokes to catch up.

    In here you mean?  I have noticed that happening when I have done a lot of changes, which suggests it is getting lost recording them or perhaps spell-checking is involved too.  FWIW what I sometimes have to do then if it becomes too unusable is clone the tab and my composition and then restart in the new tab (e.g. using Ctrl-a, Ctrl-c, Ctrl-k, click Reply, and press Ctrl-v).

    Dear Clare_HS,

    This problem is pretty universal.  Just look around the MS Community.  Many people are having problems with the WiFi on the Surface 3, both with Win 8.1 and 10.  It doesn't always recognize WiFi networks and sometimes it says it's connected when the browser's behavior clearly indicates that it's not.  I have already returned my Surface 3 Pro once for repair.  Problem still persists. I had hoped that Win 10 with new drivers would fix the issue.  It hasn't.

    I don't want to do this again, because of the hours required to "update" the new returned Surface.  My time is valuable and I shouldn't have to be a technician, just a customer.

    Now, in fact, when the WiFi is acting up, the machine runs hot and wastes battery life. 

    This is disappointing since the Surface 3Pro is, for the time-being at least, the flagship of the MS line.  It should work well and be well supported.  If there is a failure in manufacture, and there appears that there is, MS should recall and replace these units.

    This issue may be acknowledged by MS, but they're not doing anything about it.  I too have had this problem, sent in my machine for a replacement and still have the same problem.  It seems that this causes the machine to run hot for some reason, wasting battery life.  

    I sent my machine into MS for a replacement.  The same issue still occurs.  Maybe MS acknowledges the issue but they don't seem to be doing anything about it.  This is disappointing, given that the Surface 3Pro, for the time being at least, is MS's flagship computer.  

    Would love to have a fix for this!!!!
