Surface Pro 3 - Windows 10 - WiFi (slow or limited connectivity )

Have a Surface Pro 3 that worked fine till I updated to Win10.  Now the wireless connection seems to randomly go to a "limited connectivity" mode.  Fortunately was purchased from Costco a coupe of weeks ago so it is going back there if we can't get this figured out by Sunday.

The Surface Pro3 is a flagship device - why in the world would you subject your customers to have to resort to looking for help in forums like this?

Everyone,

Build 10586 - the November Windows 10 update - was released yesterday, and it contains a newer Marvell wireless driver 15.68.9032.47 - people are reporting that this greatly improves wireless connectivity. Please download the large update, and if you used the registry hack, reverse it as follows:

Press Windows button. Search for regedit. Open it

  1. Navigate to the following path:

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\mrvlpcie8897

  1. Find the item labeled “TXAMSDU”. Double tap and modify the value from 0 to 1
  2. Restart the machine

Then test your connectivity, and post results.

Fred,

the November Windows 10 update to build 10586 has new wireless drivers. Can you download and install the update (it should be offered via WU) and let us know if this changes your connectivity?

These kinds of issues WERE present on 8.1 for months but they mostly all cleared after several driver updates.

And that particular router is not one known to exhibit slow wifi. I'm suggesting you trade it because it is SP new and you can now get one with 10 pre-installed and not have to go through an upgrade AND because you have this issue. Getting it swapped will rule out a hardware issue and would be a step forward.

This is what *I* would do if in this situation.

For what it's worth - Microsoft needs to fix the driver and any underlying Win 10 OS issues. It took them 9 months to get a "good" Windows 8.1 wireless driver.     what brand and model router do you have?

    I have the exact same problems as jollyjoe73 and LauraEubank, and many others in this thread. My router model is Technicolor MediaAccess TG788vn v2 (firmware 10.5.2.S).

    Windows 10586.63 - all latest drivers when posting.

    Marvell AVASTAR Wireless AC Network Controller: 15.68.3091.193 (driver date 04-06-2015), mrvlpcie8897.sys (file version MP193).

    Band is set to Auto. Selecting either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz does not resolve issues. Reinstalled, same problem.

    I have connected a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 6000 via bluetooth dongle. Wifi speed is greatly slowing down when the Surface Pro 3 is close to the Wifi dongle / mouse is in use. As suspected, SP is a poorly designed product not able to shield itself properly from bluetooth frequency interference and thus not able to honour its promises.

    To be honest, I am not sure Microsoft will ever fix the Wifi issue, nor be able too. First thread post was issued July 30, 2015 - today that is almost 6 months ago, and people still posting to this thread reporting issues with Wifi and their Surface Pro 3 machines.

    To make matters worse, the problem appeared around 1.5 years ago - http://winsupersite.com/mobile-devices/microsoft-surface-firmware-updates-july-2014 in July 2014 and Microsoft said "We will be fixing it, we have released updates to fix the problems, blah blah blah". Problem is, updates are not working and nothing happens - this thread is a waste of time - at best.

    Perels, complete sympathy!!! so frustrating. I didnt want to go down the Apple route and get an ipad, as I am familiar with windows and wanted a tablet/laptop alternative. But this has really pushed me the other way. Another issue I have is the complete lack of USB GPS receiver support (because MS were too tight to put a GPS onboard). Issues with comm ports and Win8.1 not able to emulate correctly blah blah. Just sort it MS. Then offer it at a rip off price, but at least give a solution. I mean, a tablet these days without an option for GPS - beggers belief!

    Hi Barb,

    Thanks for all your postings on here - I've worked through most of the fixes you've suggested.

    I am connected to a TP Link, TL-WR841N. I was using this on Win8.1 and speeds were just fine.

    Tech support are now suggesting a 'refresh' as per the email below.....

    Unfortunately the next step is a refresh. That will remove the apps + programs but keep your personal files. To try this open up settings, go to updates + security, choose recovery. Click Reset This PC - keep my files.
