Surface Pro 3 - Windows 10 - WiFi (slow or limited connectivity )

Have a Surface Pro 3 that worked fine till I updated to Win10.  Now the wireless connection seems to randomly go to a "limited connectivity" mode.  Fortunately was purchased from Costco a coupe of weeks ago so it is going back there if we can't get this figured out by Sunday.

The Surface Pro3 is a flagship device - why in the world would you subject your customers to have to resort to looking for help in forums like this?

Everyone,

Build 10586 - the November Windows 10 update - was released yesterday, and it contains a newer Marvell wireless driver 15.68.9032.47 - people are reporting that this greatly improves wireless connectivity. Please download the large update, and if you used the registry hack, reverse it as follows:

Press Windows button. Search for regedit. Open it

  1. Navigate to the following path:

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\mrvlpcie8897

  1. Find the item labeled “TXAMSDU”. Double tap and modify the value from 0 to 1
  2. Restart the machine

Then test your connectivity, and post results.

Fred,

the November Windows 10 update to build 10586 has new wireless drivers. Can you download and install the update (it should be offered via WU) and let us know if this changes your connectivity?

These kinds of issues WERE present on 8.1 for months but they mostly all cleared after several driver updates.

And that particular router is not one known to exhibit slow wifi. I'm suggesting you trade it because it is SP new and you can now get one with 10 pre-installed and not have to go through an upgrade AND because you have this issue. Getting it swapped will rule out a hardware issue and would be a step forward.

This is what *I* would do if in this situation.

For what it's worth - Microsoft needs to fix the driver and any underlying Win 10 OS issues. It took them 9 months to get a "good" Windows 8.1 wireless driver.     What security mode are you using with your router?  I just went through a horrible experience with mine which was only saved by good luck.   I got the "not connected" symptom and an indication that it wanted the network password or a press of the router's security button.  A problem may be that I have to use my wireless device only as a bridge.  The DHCP function is in the modem.  Anyway, the Surface was repeatedly unable to complete the connection using the button.  I happen to have a Surface RT 2 (W8.1.2) to use with that same device but apparently it does not have the capability of showing us the key?  (E.g. via netsh wlan sh pro key=clear)  but  apparently I had the foresight to record the key when the Surface Pro was working.  I was able to type that (carefully) and then get connected again.  Whew!

    Oh.  Stupid me.  I now see that the actual command I could have used is   netsh wlan sh pro <SSID> key=clear.  I had tried giving it  netsh wlan sh pro "Wi-Fi" key=clear but apparently don't have a profile with that name on that interface.  And now on my Surface Pro I find that I am connected with that same SSID but don't have any wireless profiles at all? 

    Can they make this stuff any more convoluted and unusable?  What do people do who don't have another device to use to prove that their connection is actually working and to provide a source of the security key?

    I've got exactly the same problem. I'm on an SP3 With Win 10 - All the latest updates are installed and my actual connection speeds on the 5Ghz AC Band are horrible.  Yes I can connect to the internet but moving files on my network to or from anEthernet connected NAS is horrific.  1GB took an hour but onthe 2.5Ghz channel just a minute and a half.

    Wifi Status shows me that I'm connected at 722mbps but thats not me realized speed.  I had no problem with my N router but 3 days ago I bought an AC router and it has been hell since.  So I bought a 2nd router (Asus AC2400 AC87U)

    and it made no difference.

    Then I tried a D-Link DWA-182 USB Network adapter with both new routers and all my problems disappeared and speed was lightning fast.  There is absolutely no doubt that the Marvell AC on Win 10 is not working with either of my 2 AC Routers.
