Surface Pro 3 - Windows 10 - WiFi (slow or limited connectivity )

Have a Surface Pro 3 that worked fine till I updated to Win10. Now the wireless connection seems to randomly go to a "limited connectivity" mode. Fortunately was purchased from Costco a coupe of weeks ago so it is going back there if we can't get this figured out by Sunday.

The Surface Pro3 is a flagship device - why in the world would you subject your customers to have to resort to looking for help in forums like this?

Build 10586 - the November Windows 10 update - was released yesterday, and it contains a newer Marvell wireless driver 15.68.9032.47 - people are reporting that this greatly improves wireless connectivity. Please download the large update, and if you used the registry hack, reverse it as follows:

Press Windows button. Search for regedit. Open it

Navigate to the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\mrvlpcie8897

Find the item labeled “TXAMSDU”. Double tap and modify the value from 0 to 1
Restart the machine

Then test your connectivity, and post results.

the November Windows 10 update to build 10586 has new wireless drivers. Can you download and install the update (it should be offered via WU) and let us know if this changes your connectivity?

These kinds of issues WERE present on 8.1 for months but they mostly all cleared after several driver updates.

And that particular router is not one known to exhibit slow wifi. I'm suggesting you trade it because it is SP new and you can now get one with 10 pre-installed and not have to go through an upgrade AND because you have this issue. Getting it swapped will rule out a hardware issue and would be a step forward.

This is what *I* would do if in this situation.

For what it's worth - Microsoft needs to fix the driver and any underlying Win 10 OS issues. It took them 9 months to get a "good" Windows 8.1 wireless driver. I don't understand your reference to type 1,2 and 3 routers. This isn't a nomenclature I've seen before. What do you mean exactly? For reference, I personally don't have speed issues on Netgear 7000, 7500, or 8000 routers. But it IS a driver issue of some kind.

If you can find the older driver (Microsoft won't post it, you will have to find it elsewhere), make sure it is from a reliable source, then you will have to extract it from a zip file and use the browse, let me choose have disk option in device manager to install it. It isn't legal to redistribute Microsoft software, so third party sites should not be hosting downloads..

Barb - I read through the string (and a few others where I saw you offering advice/help). While I found where to download the .zip and the integrated MSI files, I cannot seem to roll the driver back to .151. Can you point me to a good POI on how to get rid of the current driver and put the .151 on instead? I'm Mac-smart, but Windows-stupid and can't get the .151 installed.

BTW, I'm having the same problems others describe and was hoping to try the same solution. My SP3 is new, Windows 10 pre-installed. My home network (Comcast) runs off a Cisco DPC3941 configured by Comcast (they don't let you play with it). My other devices all pull around 40-50 MBs (2.4) and 150-170 MBs (5.0). The SP3 runs around 14 MBs (2.4) and I'm lucky to get over 10MBs on 5.0.

I can tell you that when my SP3 runs on a Type 1 router (Arris brand) it gets up to 75MBs down, but with a Type 3 like I use for my home network, there is a conflict.

It seems to me that MS has an Issue with their current Marvell driver, at least when operating on modern Type 2 and Type 3 routers that are capable of high speeds.

you cant rollback driver cause you don't have it installed yet. go to link and download older driver. go to device manager/network and sharing center/properties /configure etc find WiFi driver and click update driver. Then choose to browse your computer for driver file, point it to where u downloaded file, and then it will find the driver and install it.
