Surface 2 Speaker/Sound Problems

Guys, my replacement arrived yesterday and after installing all updates sound still is amazing. I now need to send my 'broken sound' Surface back to Microsoft and I did a full format to delete all my stuff, and after the format sound is still bad.

I don't think this is a software issue and a replacement will be the only solution. I'm not saying get one now, if you are ok to wait then do so, you still have like 11 months of warranty.

how long did it take to arrive? I'm waiting on my replacement from MS too. Hope I get the same results as you!

I reported the issue on Friday, got a email saying the new Surface had been dispatched on Monday and new tablet arrived on Tuesday by UPS...

And the replacement, the sound is good?

If I get a replacement, will my desktop files (ik programs are irrelevant), but stuff that's not autosynced with metro... like my downloaded pics and music files from internet?

Move all those files to your microSD.

Can someone please post a solution to this or post a link where I can get in touch with Microsoft. I've been firmly attached to my new Surface 2 over the last month since I bought it, and couldn't live without it.

 

Now, suddenly, it sounds like the speakers have randomly blown. Music sounded great this morning. Then I take it to a coffee shop over lunch, come back, and everything is distorted. The first thing I noticed was the camera was on when I took it out of its sleeve. Programs seemed laggy. Then when I went to play some music, the speakers were terrible. I've uninstalled a bunch of updates, but nothing works. I'm devastated.

 

It's not just music, it's videos, and everything. Even key presses sound warped and tinny. Please can someone post a solution??

Was the back a bit hot? I have the feeling the speakers die due to some heat melting down something... It's just an idea.

Don't be afraid to just have MS send you a new one --they are very good about it and from the sound of it, I had a similar problem and traded it right in no problem.  your issues sound like much more that the tinny, sound and crackling during Amazon Prime and XBOX music that is plaguing many of us (that probably is a driver issue.)

That is what happened to me.  I hadn't made the heat correlation though, but my surface was very hot the night before the sound died.  good catch.

I registered my surface with support.microsoft.com and then went through the support chat to get a return authorization. They have an advanced return option where they send you a new device and you send the damaged one back after receiving the new one.  You will need to guarantee with a credit card for advanced replacement.
