Surface 2 Speaker/Sound Problems

I restarted and it installed the miracast and high definition codecs, but would not install the Tegra driver or codec. Even going to the device manager and trying the update automatically would result in an error message saying the device could not properly be configured.

I'm not sure where the 8/14 versions came from, maybe as part of the automatic driver update attempt, or were never deleted from when I told it to delete drivers. Either way it would not let me install the new drivers, even selecting them manually, until after the 8/14 drivers had been installed for either the device or the codec.

I noticed that my sound was quieter than it normally is, even though I run at 100% so I tried rolling back the drivers, ended up losing sound so I updated to the latest driver again and still didn't have sound, but when I went to investigate it said that the enhancement was causing a problem and to turn it off, so I did and have sound, but still seems kind of quiet.

I wonder if they stealth turned it off or something and that's why everyone is quiet all of a sudden...

So follow up on this this morning. I decided to try uninstalling all the audio codecs and the Tegra audio driver (deleting the driver checked). This left me with no sound and the driver could not be updated automatically. Manually however would work, but I had to use the 8/14 driver first, then the latest driver. This has restored my much louder sound, with the slight tinny-ness mostly in the higher ranges.

I guess for those rolling back or uninstalling make sure to do the Tegra audio codec as well and this might restore things.

The other odd thing I noticed was that the audio level would not go over 50% when I was forced to have enhancement turned off (little green bar in desktop audio control) which seems to line up with my 50% noise reduction. While not enhanced, there was no tinny-ness whatsoever which leads me to believe that this is a software issue rather than a hardware issue and hopefully the December 10th drivers will fix this.

When you uninstalled everything, did you restart? Usually after the restart the new hardware is found and drivers are downloaded online? Did that happen? From where did you get the drivers for 8/14?

I would assume peeps are contacting Microsoft so they know the sound still sucks.
