Surface 2 Speaker/Sound Problems

I just purchased two new Surface 2's and I am noticing a significant reduction in volume from the speakers compared to my old Surface RT.  The speakers also lack any kind of bass.  They are very "tinny" and shallow sounding.  When using headphones, there is plenty of bass sound and the volume level is not an issue.

I am also experienceing a significant amount of sound crackling (from the speakers and attached headphones) when streaming video from Amazon Instant Video using both the desktop and metro versions of IE.  I do not experience this crackling problem with other sound sources like Xbox music, gaming, or other website streaming video (i.e. YouTube).

Since I was experiencing this on two different Surface 2's, it seems unlikely that this is a hardware issue.  This is most likely a software/driver issue.  Is there anything that I can do to resolve this problem, other than wait for a possible software or firmware update?

    Yea, but mine is literally any thing just sounds horrible. It used to be just the crackling, but its just the sound quality itself is horrendous!

    I sold my SP2 on eBay and got $300 for it and purchased a new SP3.  The sound is so much better I highly recommend the upgrade if you can afford it.  It is stunning machine in a class by itself IMO.

    With the latest update, the speakers got bad again! I got a replacement a while ago, and they were a lot better, not tinny or quiet, (they weren't LOUD, but they were audible). anyway, the latest update made them just like they were on my other one. I don't get why this isn't a major issue with more people saying anything... its obviously both a bad batch and software.

    Unfortunally every surface has this, you just need to keep the volume below 70-80ish else it'll crackle. I notice it specifically when someone says a word with a "s" in it. Just sounds mechanical then instead of a propper s sound.

    I purchased the Surface 2 back in February and was using it at school when I started to have volume glitches with crackling and then no volume/unadjustable when I take my headphones out of the jack. Then I had screen freezing problems. When I called Microsoft about the issues they assured me that they would send me a refurbished one that was checked to make sure it had no glitches. Now, a week after receiving the replacement I've already incurred both the crackling of the speakers and the freezing of the volumes after removing my headphones. I know this has been an issue for many but has anyone seemed to find a solution because it makes listening to lectures impossible to do?
