I just purchased two new Surface 2's and I am noticing a significant reduction in volume from the speakers compared to my old Surface RT. The speakers also lack any kind of bass. They are very "tinny" and shallow sounding. When using headphones, there is plenty of bass sound and the volume level is not an issue.
I am also experienceing a significant amount of sound crackling (from the speakers and attached headphones) when streaming video from Amazon Instant Video using both the desktop and metro versions of IE. I do not experience this crackling problem with other sound sources like Xbox music, gaming, or other website streaming video (i.e. YouTube).
Since I was experiencing this on two different Surface 2's, it seems unlikely that this is a hardware issue. This is most likely a software/driver issue. Is there anything that I can do to resolve this problem, other than wait for a possible software or firmware update?

Hi can any of you PLEASE do me a huge favor and tell me if your original Surface RT has any light coming through the headphone Jack??? I just bought the old original surface and I noticed that and now I'm worried if I should return it or if they're all made like that. I know I'm asking about the old surface on a new surface post, I'm sorry it's just that old surface posts get no replys anymore. THANKS GUYS!!!!
well, I've received a new surface 4 days ago and applied all the updates and everything. sound is very good now.
I've pluged and unpluged headphones several times, played extensive games while charging the surface so as to generate as much heat as possible and the sound is still good. no crackling, both speakers at same volume and general volume is good.
I still have 5 days before I have to return my old surface (advanced exchange) so I'll keep doing extensive testing until then.

It just doesn't make sense how bad they are and how no one caught it during testing. And its a shame for first time surface users cuz now this is all they have for surface quality. Surface is beautiful, but the sound on this is bad. I had the pro (original) and thought the sound was quiet. But using the 2 and then using pro right after, the pro seems louder by comparison
I just did the update this morning to my S2 and now I have no sound whatsoever... When I try to adjust the sound it says "No Speakers". :(

Yes I did thanks a few days a go it was working perfectly, but this new update f'd it up again.
