My surface 2 is being replaced under warranty.
And most likely we will see you here reporting the same issue but in your new S2.

I just purchased two new Surface 2's and I am noticing a significant reduction in volume from the speakers compared to my old Surface RT. The speakers also lack any kind of bass. They are very "tinny" and shallow sounding. When using headphones, there is plenty of bass sound and the volume level is not an issue.
I am also experienceing a significant amount of sound crackling (from the speakers and attached headphones) when streaming video from Amazon Instant Video using both the desktop and metro versions of IE. I do not experience this crackling problem with other sound sources like Xbox music, gaming, or other website streaming video (i.e. YouTube).
Since I was experiencing this on two different Surface 2's, it seems unlikely that this is a hardware issue. This is most likely a software/driver issue. Is there anything that I can do to resolve this problem, other than wait for a possible software or firmware update?
Thanks.

Any one got an answer to the crackling sound for amazon instant video (flash player) ?
I have normal sound all except on AIV at what seems to be slight peaks in the audio the sound crackles: almost as if it is clipping.
I have a sense we ar seeing the amplifier clip for some weird reason. This happens at volume 10 (which incidentally is a low number in the range for the volume being produced by the headphones. Also suggesting some weird amplifier issue. )
I'm on driver 9.17.13.2774, dated 11/26/2013
Ive tried turning off enhancements and hardware acceleration but this just makes it quieter but the issue is still there.
I have no sound issues elsewhere. Xbox video and YouTube are great but I can reproduce the issue at will on AIV watching the west wing 😃
I am also experiencing quite a lot of sound crackling from the speakers. When I listen through headphones pound is great, through speakers at about 75 or 80 volume very noticeable crackling happens. I notice it in Youtube vids through Metro Tube, YouTube via Internet Explorer and videos being played directly off the local storage. I watch a lot of training videos for software and review videos so it is VERY noticeable on voices.
I'll be contacting Microsoft first thing in the morning when support opens.
I have that version, too. When the enhancements are on, is the sound kind of distorted?
