Surface 2 Speaker/Sound Problems

I just purchased two new Surface 2's and I am noticing a significant reduction in volume from the speakers compared to my old Surface RT.  The speakers also lack any kind of bass.  They are very "tinny" and shallow sounding.  When using headphones, there is plenty of bass sound and the volume level is not an issue.

I am also experienceing a significant amount of sound crackling (from the speakers and attached headphones) when streaming video from Amazon Instant Video using both the desktop and metro versions of IE.  I do not experience this crackling problem with other sound sources like Xbox music, gaming, or other website streaming video (i.e. YouTube).

Since I was experiencing this on two different Surface 2's, it seems unlikely that this is a hardware issue.  This is most likely a software/driver issue.  Is there anything that I can do to resolve this problem, other than wait for a possible software or firmware update?

Thanks.

I don't know if anyone else has tried this but I had this problem and managed to fix it by rolling back all my audio drivers.

Some can do that and it helps for a while and some like me are stuck in a version that does not have role back. In fact, the driver version that you have now and you feel is good is given us the same issues. Go and figure.

Sound is great even when compared with my old Surface RT. The driver version for NVIDIA Tegra Audio is 9.17.13.2757 dated on the 23/10/2013

That's a newer driver so we don't have to worry about. Just wait.

I downloaded that driver too, but its still the same...

I found that even when it said that was downloaded and installed, it was still using the old driver.

Do you mind me asking how you know it wasn't using the stated driver?

Hi, I just got a Surface 2 a couple of weeks ago.

I am experiencing a lot of problems with the sound.

When I connect a headset, the sound crackles from time to time. If nothing is played the headset will play a low crackling noise that is switched on and off seemingly at random (a low crackling sound, then a pop, then total silence, then a new pop and more crackling). While playing music with Wimp the sound is okay, but once in a while (maybe once or twice every 30 seconds) the headset makes a popping sound and crackles. When turning off Wimp I can hear the music very low and crackling in the background for a little while before it fades out after maybe a minute.

The volume control for headset volume is way to high. This might just be me missing out on a setting, but with the volume at 4% it's the loudest I can take. Turning it down to 2% is a bit below my preferences. The problem is that the surface is only possible to listen at between 2-4% volume. I would prefer to be able to utilize the entire volume scale, at least up to 60-80% in order to get more volume options. Is there a setting for achieving this?

One more thing: My surface 2 won't work with a headset if the "Sound enhancement" setting is enabled under Playback Devices - Headphones - Advanced - "Signal enhancement" (don't know if this is the right translation, as the language on my surface is Norwegian. If this setting is enabled I will get error messages whenever I try to use any multimedia applications; Netflix, Wimp, YouTube (in internet explorer) etc. This did take me forever to figure out while I was having those problems.
