Surface 2 Speaker/Sound Problems

I just purchased two new Surface 2's and I am noticing a significant reduction in volume from the speakers compared to my old Surface RT.  The speakers also lack any kind of bass.  They are very "tinny" and shallow sounding.  When using headphones, there is plenty of bass sound and the volume level is not an issue.

I am also experienceing a significant amount of sound crackling (from the speakers and attached headphones) when streaming video from Amazon Instant Video using both the desktop and metro versions of IE.  I do not experience this crackling problem with other sound sources like Xbox music, gaming, or other website streaming video (i.e. YouTube).

Since I was experiencing this on two different Surface 2's, it seems unlikely that this is a hardware issue.  This is most likely a software/driver issue.  Is there anything that I can do to resolve this problem, other than wait for a possible software or firmware update?

Thanks.

Can someone please post a solution to this or post a link where I can get in touch with Microsoft. I've been firmly attached to my new Surface 2 over the last month since I bought it, and couldn't live without it.

Now, suddenly, it sounds like the speakers have randomly blown. Music sounded great this morning. Then I take it to a coffee shop over lunch, come back, and everything is distorted. The first thing I noticed was the camera was on when I took it out of its sleeve. Programs seemed laggy. Then when I went to play some music, the speakers were terrible. I've uninstalled a bunch of updates, but nothing works. I'm devastated.

It's not just music, it's videos, and everything. Even key presses sound warped and tinny. Please can someone post a solution??

Guys, my replacement arrived yesterday and after installing all updates sound still is amazing. I now need to send my 'broken sound' Surface back to Microsoft and I did a full format to delete all my stuff, and after the format sound is still bad.

I don't think this is a software issue and a replacement will be the only solution. I'm not saying get one now, if you are ok to wait then do so, you still have like 11 months of warranty.

What was your problem with the speakers? Because the problems in this thread are pretty broad. It ranges from crackling to overall low volume.

The Surface RT had its share of sound problems. They were fixed in software updates.

Did you own a Surface RT? If so, how your new Surface 2 compares? One widespread complaint is that the sound of the Surface 2 is much lower and have less bass than the Surface RT.

I had all the problems described on every post here but the only difference is that disabling the enhanced sound would make any difference and sound would still be rubbish. I have a Surface RT since day one and when I got my Surface 2 the comparison between the two was almost the same but the Surface 2 had a cleaner sound than the RT but no difference in volume. I just compared the replacement Surface 2 with the RT and sound volume seems to be the same but to be honest I think it is as good as my original Surface 2 when I got it last month.

I think something is not quite right with the faulty surfaces and that issue can be seen in different shades and it might get worse overtime.

Assuming all Surface are the same, a dodgy driver will affect everyone at the same time as we all install the same fixes...

how long did it take to arrive? I'm waiting on my replacement from MS too. Hope I get the same results as you!

I reported the issue on Friday, got a email saying the new Surface had been dispatched on Monday and new tablet arrived on Tuesday by UPS...
