Hi,

I have a MS Surface Pro 9 and after waking up from sleep the screen is always sluggish (i.e. the mouse moves aren't fluid). However, as soon as I plug the power supply the lag goes away and is away even when I unplug it.

I've done a diagnostics but couldn't find anything.

Any ideas what could be the root of this problem? I don't have anything ressources intensive that is running.

Thanks,

ioan

    Hello ioan,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

Based on the information you have provided; it seems that your Surface Pro 9 may be experiencing a power management issue. I understand how frustrating this can be when your Surface Pro 9 behaves sluggishly after waking up from sleep. Let’s troubleshoot this issue and get your device back on track.

May I know which Surface pro 9 configuration do you have? The Intel or 5G(SQ3)?

    Here are some possible solutions:

    1. Force the device to shut down and restart to clear hardware cache. Press and hold down the power button until your Surface shuts down and restarts and you see the Windows logo screen (about 20 seconds), then release the power button.
    2. Check Power Mode Settings: Your Surface Pro might be set to a power-saving mode which reduces performance to save battery life. You can check the power mode setting and adjust it for better performance.
    3. Update Your Surface Pro: Ensure your device is up to date by checking for Windows updates. These updates often include performance improvements and bug fixes.
    4. Disable Unnecessary Startup Programs: Some programs that run in the background when your device starts up can cause lag. You can disable these programs via the Task Manager.
    5. Run a Full Virus Scan: It’s possible that a virus or adware could be causing the lag. Running a full virus scan using Windows Security can help identify and remove these potential threats.
    6. Check Startup Programs: Disable unnecessary startup programs or services that might be running in the background. These programs can consume resources and slow down your device. To do this:
      • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager.
      • Navigate to the Startup tab and disable any programs you don’t need to run at startup.
    7. Run the system file checker to check if there are corrupted system files that are just looping around causing this kind of issue to exist.  See Using System File Checker in Windows - Microsoft Support.

I hope the provided solution works for you. I look forward to hearing from you.

    Kind regards,

I'm having the same issue. I've never noticed this until probably this past week. Wonder if this is related to a recent Surface firmware update or something?
