Surface Pro 4 Pen needs to be re-bluetooth paired after waking up/turning on surface

Hello, 

My surface pro 4 pen needs to be re-paired via bluetooth after the computer has been sleeping/hibernating in order for the eraser button to function when clicked.  It still shows up as a connected device in the bluetooth settings, and still writes properly even when the eraser button does not work.  After removing the pen from the list of connected devices and re-pairing, everything seems to work properly but this is obviously inconvenient. Thanks for any help you can offer!

    Nope, Vincent. It doesn't seem to work.

    Pen, in Surface Pro 4, it's simply a bad hardware/software implementation. And Microsoft seems to understimate the value of this fail.

    I buy a device by Microsoft with a pen by Microsoft and it must work in any condition.

    Thanks for your reply Acrosicious. Unfortunately your solution does not work for me.  The existence of a USB Input device under Human Interface Devices is dependent upon a USB Input device being present in the USB port.  So on first opening, the device manager did not list a USB Input Device under HID.  I plugged a USB device in and sure enough the entry for USB Input Device appeared under HID and yes it was the last entry in the list.  I disabled the 'Allow computer to turn off this device to save power' and tested your solution.  Sadly as I said earlier it did not work for me.

    Back to the drawing board:-)

    So, i think I found a solution that works:

    (First make sure the pen works by repairing bluetooth.)

    Go to device manager -> Human interface devices : and find USB Input device. (Its the last entry for me)

    Go to the devices Energy settings (if the tab doesn't exist it's the wrong device) and disable the first check box so the pen is never put to standby.

    After doing this the pen works for me even after hibernation.

    Solution doesn't work consistently.

Since you're experiencing the same issue that was given in this thread, have you tried the troubleshooting steps that were provided by one of our Forum Moderators, Joseph Agu? If you haven't, we suggest that you thoroughly follow the steps given and let us know how it goes.

    Yes we have updated the firmware to the latest version, run all the troubleshooting, changed the batteries and finally read and used Joseph's article.

    I will now reiterate what I and many others have said -

    The issue is easily reproducible.

    1. Set the power profile to hibernate when the power button is pressed.
    2. Hibernate the pro 4.
    3. Boot pro 4 from its hibernated state.
    4. Pen button fails to function.

    Every time a pro 4 is booted from an hibernated state the pen button fails.  Switch the power profile to 'Power Off' and the issue is resolved, i.e., the pen button works every time.

    I am beginning to think that this forum is a waste of time.

    Microsoft, if Bill was still at the helm this would have been sorted by now.
