Surface Pro 4 Pen needs to be re-bluetooth paired after waking up/turning on surface

Hello, 

My surface pro 4 pen needs to be re-paired via bluetooth after the computer has been sleeping/hibernating in order for the eraser button to function when clicked.  It still shows up as a connected device in the bluetooth settings, and still writes properly even when the eraser button does not work.  After removing the pen from the list of connected devices and re-pairing, everything seems to work properly but this is obviously inconvenient. Thanks for any help you can offer!

    Thank you for the reply. 

    • Windows Build: Windows 10 Pro, Version 1607, OS Build 14393.447.
    • Yes the new surface is totally up to date with latest firmware according to windows update.
    • I am trying to launch OneNote 2016 with the eraser button as well as trying to open snipping tool with the eraser button.
    • When I restart the surface, the pen eraser works normally, same as if I re-pair with bluetooth.

    For what it's worth, the answer desk representative at the Microsoft store that I went to told me that he has seen this before and that I will need to wait for an update from Microsoft to have it resolved.

    We'll have this investigated. Please provide us the following:

    • Windows build installed:
    • Please confirm if it's only the eraser feature of the Pen that's not working.
    • Let us know if the new Surface that you have has all the latest firmware which can be downloaded from this link.
    • What application have you tried in which the eraser feature is not working.
    • What about restarting the Surface, does the eraser work normally?

    Well, I just got a brand new SP4 from the Microsoft Store as well as a brand new pen.  This combination of hardware has the same exact issue.  Is this just a Windows bug ? The only thing common between both these combinations of hardware is the operating system installed on them...

    So the replacement pen has the same exact issue...extremely frustrating that it still doesn't work after being without a pen for over a week...

    Have you tried creating a new login profile?  Your current profile could be corrupt.  It doesn't matter if the new  login is a local or Microsoft account.
