USB3 Drive Base Disconnecting During Write Cycle

OK, this is an interesting problem.

So, I have an external SSD in a USB3 enclosure, and I've been moving my Steam Library onto it.

The SSD is a Samsung EVO 850, 500GB drive. I've tried two different enclosures, a Startech and an Orico. Both behave the same way.

The enclosure is hooked up through the keyboard base of the Surface Book via one of the USB3 ports.

The problem I'm encountering is when the drive is busy writing files the base seems to disconnect and the drive disappears. It eventually remounts, but of course the damage is done... 

To test this issue, I ran Crystal Disk Mark 5 on the external drive, and the read cycle is fine. Once the write cycle begins, it seems to hang up and then suddenly the drive disconnects.

Anyone have any idea what might be going on here?

    Guys,

    Can somebody test the speed of external SSD drive connected to SB over USB3?

    Mine does not disconnect but the speed is really miserable!

    This is Samsung Evo 850 connected in Inateck USB 3 enclosure.

    I tried both with docking station and directly with the keyboard - no significant change,

    Recently I have come across an issue with using the USB port with external devices (external modem & smart phone)  - once I plug in either device, it continues to connect and disconnect.  

    Are there any patches or updates that can correct this issue?

    I also tried just prior to this post to confirm.  Still DISAPPOINTED!!!! Still no resolution.  Still no acknowledgement from Suckysoft Still the most expensive brick attached to a display I've ever purchased!  I'm stuck with this lemon.  Using CrystalDisk will cause it to disconnect every time.  This unexpected disconnect can't be good for the longevity of the these devices either.

    It's been a little over a week since my last post.  Has anyone tried this again lately?

    I just tried again and had another hang. When it hung the light on the drive flicked off for longer than its regular flashes and the keyboard and mouse were unresponsive.
