Surface Dock 2 Display Problem

My customer has Surface Pro 7 with a new Dock 2 and 2 external monitors (Viewsonic) with USB-C to VGA. Windows shows the 3 screens.

Windows 10 Pro is up to date with 20H2, I'm pretty sure Dock 2 has latest firmware.

The issue is suddenly the 2 external screens shutdown while the user is working, also when she reconnects the Surface to the Dock (Surface Connect cable), the external monitors don't open although Windows shows them active. Have to disconnect and reconnect the USB-C adaptors to have the screens light up properly.

Has anyone experience this anomaly?

i had the same problem as more or less all decribed. Bought a dock 2 and had no output to monitor.

All worked fine directly on my surface pro 7, but not via the dock. 

thought the best and fastest solution was to call mirosoft support here in dk and spend 2 hours on the phone with no solution.

Ended up thinking that my display was to old for the dock and decided to by a new display. But...same problem.

Finally i just wrote "surface dock 2 problem" in my browser, got in here and could see that the adapter from microsoft was needed, ordered it and all is now good.

I just wish, and believe it´s fair to expect, that microsoft support had told that when i called then i would have saved myself from buying a usb-c to hdmi cable and a new monitor. 

i actually think it would be reasonable that microsoft informed about this when i ordered my dock 2.

Having had a surface pro 3 for years with a dock that just worked, i find this very dissapointing.

Thanks aditools - I purchased two Belkin USB C to HDMI adapters (4K@60Htz / model #F2CU038btBLK) and two HDMI cables (M/M / Insignia Model #NS-PG09501-C) and the dual Dell U2410 external monitors now work perfectly! The fix cost an additional $200.

FYI - be prepared to potentially pay +$300 for the Dock 2 plus an additional $200K for HDMI adapters and HDMI cables to connect two HDMI monitors to a Surface Pro 6.

Everything else on the dock actually works very well and the single point connection to the surface is a good design to leave your desk less cluttered.

I found a solution to this - but be prepared to open your wallets - again....

So after purchasing a $3000 Surface Laptop 3, $400 on a Surface Dock 2 and 2 x $30 on USB-C to HDMI Cables, I could not get the dock to work.

The cables work when connected to the USB C port on the laptop directly to the monitor, but not via the Dock 2.

After many hours on the phone with MS Support, I finally took the plunge and purchased 2 x Belkin USB C to HDMI adaptors (over $60 a pop) and 2 HDMI cables. Surprise, surprise it worked!

The only reasoning I can come to is that the USB-C to HDMI Cable did not support 4k @ 60Htz, which the adaptors resolved. I had a look around, and I can't find a direct USB-C to HDMI cable that supports 4k @ 60 (only 4k @ 30).

Hope this helps everyone out.

P.S. I do think it's pathetic that we pay a MS premium for a MS Dock 2 and then need to buy more peripherals to make it work. What a costly exercise - next laptop, I'll be going back to a Dell, HP or Lenovo, etc.

I'm stuck working from home and my employer provided a Surface Pro 6 to connect with the office. I do a lot of spread sheet work and need two full size monitors.

I have connected a brand new Dock 2 to my Surface. The Dock 2 is connected via USB C to HDMI cables to two external Dell U2410 monitors. The Dell Monitors flicker on and off constantly when connected to the Dock 2. Both monitors are detected properly in the settings but just wont work using the Dock 2.

When I connect the monitors (one at a time) to the Pro 6 using the Display port to HDMI cable both monitors work flawlessly.

I think the problem are the USB C to HDMI cables (using new CableCreations USB C to HDMI cables 4K@30Hz). Can anyone recommend a good USB C to HDMI cable?

BTW - I'm extremely disappointed in this product - $300 and it doesn't work.
