Surface Pro 7 flickers with every external monitor

When I connect an external display while the Surface is already turned on, the external display is flickering. When I restart the Surface with the external monitor already attached everything works fine. Disconnecting the Surface then and reconnecting

• same problem. The flickering appears with different monitors, different cables and with different connectors (Surface Dock or USB-C). I have the 16 GB, i7 Version of the Surface 7 with an up to date OS.

Update to Windows Build 2004 and Firmwares 13.0.1319.2 and 8.123.140.0 through Insiders Update looks promising.

It took over 2 hours to install on my SP7 but finally graphics appear stable.

The Intel driver hasn't changed, but I haven't seen a single event log entry like previously including when coming out of sleep mode. 

Am going to go to sleep myself now... see how it runs tomorrow.

I was tipped off on another discussion thread that a Windows Insider Update has a bunch of Surface Pro and X firmware updates. Sure enough, there is. Am downloading it now and will see if it fixes the issue. 

I tried installing that missed component and it became blank screen.  I used external monitor to uninstall panel drivers, after that its back to normal. I cleaned error logs and I will check it again after few days

To add my trials and tribulations,

I had SP4, original dock, 2 monitors connected via passive mini dp to dvi cables. With SP4 as 3rd screen in desktop mode with keyboard detached. No problem. 

My SP4 power slot stopped working so i got a new SP7. Problems same as everyone else.

I replaced cables with active, a new monitor, i finally bit the bullet and had MS do a warranty replacement on my SP7. 

I received a refurbished unit which i was not thrilled about. Let it fully update. Alot of intel updates which i dont remember from before. I did have a few problems when trying to connect a hdmi monitor and a standard monitor both thru dock. I have found stability with hdmi hdmi directly to usb c port and other monitor thru dock.

Ultimately, the SP line is not built to handle multiple monitors and with both monitors running programs and chat room open on SP its getting hot enough to cook eggs on. I am now looking to put a desktop together to run monitors and to work from home and SP comes with me on the go.

I think you are right, I check my surface pro and get few hundreds of error logs

I google it and found almost topics about Surface pro display which includes Surface pro X too

So far so good with the not-updated Surface

When it comes out of sleep it logs 1x Event ID 13 in the System log, and 6x Event ID 514 in the Application log, then it stops and works perfectly. 

Will use this for the next 4 days while i'm working from home, and see how it runs.
