I have a 1TB Buffalo Extreme HDD and am having difficulty connecting it to my SP3. The drive has an extra layer of security in that it initially loads as a CD drive. You run the Password file and it asks you for the password to access the data. It then
unmounts and remounts as a hard drive.
My problem is that although it usually mounts as a CD drive fine and I can enter the password, sometimes it doesn't unmount as a CD drive, and other times it does unmount but it fails to remount as a HD. I know I've typed the correct password in because
a message comes up to tell me it worked and the light on the drive turns from red to green. Even worse, I am forced to just unplug it from the SP3 since there's nothing to 'eject', but when I plug it back in, I get no power out of the USB drive (at least the
lights on the HD don't light up at all) and the drive doesn't even mount as a CD-drive. The only way to try it again is to reboot the SP3.
This drive works fine on all my other multitude of devices (a variety of Windows-based laptops and desktops). It's just the SP3 that can't mount it. What is the deal here and how can I get around this problem without buying a new hard drive and tediously
copying the 0.5TB of data onto the new one?
