This is a widespread problem that doesn't seem to be addressed properly by the Microsoft Community.
I bought my Surface yesterday as a work tool and am kind of furious about this, as it isn't advertised anywhere that it won't properly support USB3 devices that SHOULD work on one port.
I'm not willing to buy extra cables and re-plug the Y cable into the power adapter. It's ultra-tedious at best.
Is it too much to ask to have the USB3 output enough voltage AT LEAST when the tablet is plugged to its adapter?
I have many USB3 drives that never required extra cables on computers as thin as the ASUS Zenbooks.
The Surface Pro 3 has very limited connectivity already, I do not get why a firmware update hasn't been released so we'd have the option of powering the USB-connector as it should be (in 2014)!!! I wouldn't care less if it does drain the battery faster,
I'd want to have THE OPTION.
Forgive my anger, but for the money being paid, I'm this close to getting a complete refund since this tablet would offer close to NO connectivity if this problem stays unadressed.
Someone at Microsoft please react to this.
Thank you.
