Surface Dock keeps waking up external monitor

My monitor (LG 29UM68) is connected to Surface Dock -> SP4, via direct miniDisplayPort.

It keeps entering sleep mode and waking up repeatedly, even though my SP4 is asleep. This does not happen when I connect the monitor to SP4 directly.

Another issue is that if I set to PC Screen Only, after few seconds, it will automatically switch back to external monitor only. Again, this does not happen if I connect monitor to SP4 directly.

These 2 issues only arise if I use Surface Dock.

I have gone through all the steps here (https://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-sg/support/hardware-and-drivers/troubleshoot-docking-station-surface-dock) successfully, but issue persist.

Please help.

    Hi,

    To help you isolate the issue that you're experiencing on your Surface 3, can you tell us if the external monitor acts the same way it did if you connect it to the Surface 3 directly?

    You can also try to fix the issue by running the Surface Software Repair Tool.

    Hi AJ, the monitor works just fine while not docked.  The Surface will sleep and awake as expected plugged in directly.  My Surface is brand new in the last month.  I've also been through 3 brand new docking stations trying to resolve the issues while docked.  I ran the tool but have the same issues.  I've also completely reloaded the Surface twice.

    Lately, if I dock/undock (hot or cold), the external monitor won't even work afterwards.  The only way I've been able to get the monitor to come back on is to go into the device manager, remove the display adapter (Intel HD Graphics) and restart.  After the system reboots the monitor will work again once the graphics adapter is reinstalled.  But if I undock (hot or cold) it'll revert back to not working.

    I also have an issue where the sound won't output from the dock.  It shows up in the USB devices as "Unknown USB Device - Device descriptor request failed" (Code 43).  This message is nearly impossible to get rid of, I found others having this problem and the only way to get the audio back to  "Microsoft Surface Docking Station Audio" under sound devices was to pull the power from the dock itself and plugging back in.

    Pretty frustrated at this point.  I can't seem to find any sort of firmware updates for the dock.  If I send it in, the Surface itself seems to work ok without the dock so I'd fully expect to have it sent back to me as "no fault found".  Not using the dock is a deal breaker, I have to have it for my devices.

    For me the problem happens only when the monitor is connected through the dock. No issues when I connect it directly using the same cable. Surface software repair tool failed to fix the issue.

    Guys it is very annoying, please pay attention to it.

    Have the same issue.

    1. Surface Pro 4 withal Windows 10 updates installed.
    2. Surface Dock with latest firmware installed.
    3. Monitor LG 27UD68-P

    Monitor going to sleep then wakeup in with intervals of 15-20 seconds.

    When connected directly to SP4 sleep as expected.

    new Surface Pro: i5 - 8GB

    Did a Surface Dock Update, newest Fall Update + Drivers (Pen Problem still there - but another story) and ran the Surface Software Repair Tool.

    So... where is the problem?

    I have the same monitor. Using a UHD mDP to Hdmi adapter resolved the sleep problem. I know it's a suboptimal setup but the sleep issue was driving me crazy. 

    Used one similar to this and connected the HDMI cable that came with the monitor.
