Surface Dock keeps waking up external monitor

The recent Dock update seems to mention something about passive adaptor... and am pretty sure that the Dock supports 4K monitors, at least under certain configurations.

I have been fighting this issue for some time, with a Surface Dock and now a Surface Laptop. Doing my homework, updating firmware, on the phone with Microsoft, wait for a replacement.... Yes, the whole process you all know the pain of.

But now FIXED because of this thread!

Well, as Michael said in the last post, not fixed, but I will take the workaround. 

I picked up an active MiniDP to HDMI 4k adapter and a good HDMI cable and it now works as I expected it to. My external Samsung 4k monitor shuts and stays off properly when the Surface Laptop is in sleep/hibernate/off mode. Plus I got a huge benefit from adding the 4k adapter:  The monitor resolution now goes to 3840 x 2160. Nice and clear. Could never get that resolution before. What a difference.

Now for my rant/comments:

I started out long ago as an electronic technician and then moved into the computing side. Watching this thread really makes me appreciate members who share good troubleshooting processes and techniques. That is how we get great workarounds to deficient (not defective) hardware.

I call this hardware deficient because it does work as it was most likely designed and tested, with regular DP/HDMI. Now comes 4k and adds a new factor that I am sure a good Electronics Engineer could explain.

But this is all normal for the evolution of technology and kudos to those on this thread who took up the challenge to create workarounds instead of waiting for the big machine to fix it for us :)

But to Microsoft, even though your first level support folks use good scripts to help troubleshoot, know when to escalate. The members on this thread obviously took this past 1st and 2nd level support before anyone from MS stepped in. This "issue" is well past any support and I hope it has gone to engineering to review.

For me the problem happens only when the monitor is connected through the dock. No issues when I connect it directly using the same cable. Surface software repair tool failed to fix the issue.

Guys it is very annoying, please pay attention to it.

Dock firmware is 2.1.6.0?

Although my problem was apparently solved without this update. But doesn't hurt to try and check once more. It's frustrating indeed.
