After the recent update on my Surface pro 7 Windows Hello Face not working and its saying "Couldn't turn on the camera, please sign in with your pin"

I am also on a Surface Pro 4 with Windows fully updated. I have experienced this problem sporadically for a very long time. I have also ensured that device drivers are up to date, and shut down the machine. I have done this many times over the lifetime of this device.
The problem always recurs eventually.

I had this same issue. I tried to shut down and restart the computer through the menu which didn't fix this issue, but then I followed this advice and it worked. Thank you!!
Since installing Windows 11 this happens much less frequently.
I found a solution (I think). Go to your device manager, find your camera, then disable it and then re-enable it. If this doesn't work also try to right click on the camera device, go to properties, and revert to a previous driver. This worked for me!
Well, thanks for the input. Now get ready to do that every other day.
I gave up with Hello Face. Just disabled it and much happier. I don't even try to use the camera. Not even sure why it's listed as a feature for the Surface.
Someday maybe Microsoft will admit there is a problem and fix it.
