Surface Book 3 Randomly Freezing

Mine was 32gb memory, 1 TB, 13.5 inch display. Had msft surface keyboard and mouse (bluetooth) and dock and pen.

Froze with and without dock, keyboard, mouse, pen etc.

I found the perfect solution that fixes it 100%!!!!!!  For me or anybody.

I returned the unit and got my money back. It should be an embarrassment to Microsoft that they build this junk. 

Maybe the surfacebook 4 will solve this. But I'm leaning to giving up and buying an HP with similar specs (except less expensive). Anybody with experience with HP with comments. Or should I give up and buy an old selectric typewriter??

I have a SB 3 15" 32 gig.  I like to keep a copy of WIkipedia on my SD card.  It's a 93 gig file.  When I first got my SB3 I tried copying it to the SD card and it constantly failed.  The SD card became very hot.  During the copy process my mouse (or any other USB device) would barely work.  This includes the USB-C port.  I tried 3 different SD cards.  I put an ice pack under the laptop near the SD card and it FINALLY completed.  Whenever under sustained load (computer is warm) the SD card will disconnect/reconnect.

I have a gaming USB keyboard (Black Widow), whenever I try to run the Razer software the keyboard disconnects/reconnects.  It's VERY frustrating.  So I'm using a $250 keyboard like a $50 keyboard without macros or dynamic keyboard lighting software.  Epic sigh.  I keep hoping a firmware will come out to fix it.

In my mind this confirms that there is something off about the USB bus power management.  I almost returned my SB3 but I can manage.  I really do love the other aspects of the laptop.  I doubt any other tablet can play Cyberpunk with decent FPS.  I had a SB2 15" and it was initially buggy, but with some time it was a rock solid computer.  I'm not sure they will fix the SB3.  I've owned 5 Surface computers.  However I don't think I'll purchase another Surface product again.

I had the same problem with my Surface Book 3 15 inch. It frequently feezed for a second and blocked the input like mouse and keyboard. Sometimes the freezing could take longer time needing a turn off and on.

I tried the other solutions in this thread but nothing worked for me.

I contacted the Microsoft support, reinstalled my PC with a specific image and reinstalled everything. It didn't work!

After a lot of trouble shooting I found out that the freezing problem was caused by the Intel power saving. I couldn't disable this in the power settings because they are very limited for the device. Instead I downloaded the "Intel Graphics Control Panel" in the Windows store and disabled everything under:

System -> Power

And bang! Now everything works like a charm. And no reboot needed!

I'm pretty sure this is the main reason for all the Surface freezing problems.

Microsoft and Intel should be a shamed not to solve this problem a long time ago or at least notify their users about it. For 2 month I have had a $3000 computer I couldn't use for my daily work and I have spent a lot of time reinstalling and trying to find out what was wrong.

This is definitely the solution! The aggressive stuttering I experienced while scrolling through this thread (a Microsoft website) with my Surface Arc mouse (a Microsoft product) on Edge (Microsoft software) running on a Surface Book 3 (Microsoft hardware) disappeared. This should be marked as the answer. Thank you for relieving my biggest frustration with this otherwise amazing device!

It is not a solution, it is a workaround. Disabling the power management is likely to cause the device to overheat which is another of the SB3 problems.
