How to press the <Insert> key when it's not there?

Given that there is no <Insert> key on the Surface/Type keyboard, what key combination will generate the <Insert> key scan code?

While a bit of a kludge, leave your window active, click the window key to the 'Start' panel.  Drag top or bottom to expose All Apps and open it.  Drag all the way right to the ease of use section and it's On-Screen Keyboard.  Open it.  Drag from the left edge to expose your app.   Insert is middle of the right side of the kb.  Pause is there too (window +Pause is one of my favs... with no pause key on other easily access kbs on the Surface)

    Thanks for this tip.  The lack of an insert key has been my biggest complaint about the Surface and it's screen and separate keyboard.  I have attached the On-Screen Keyboard to my tool bar so I don't have to do all the above steps.  It works quite well.  I often need to insert lines in my proprietary software at work and ALT with INSERT key works for this function.    What a relief I don't have to search for and pay for another keyboard.  Another little hint - I made the keyboard as small as I can to still see the insert key.  I can use my attached keyboard and just use the alt/insert key feature when needed.  I still hope my separate Surface Pro keyboard will have an up-date to allow some function to act as an insert, but meanwhile, this is an acceptable, if clumsy, solution.

    Windows + C key brings up Charms bar

    click Search

    type in "OSK.exe"

    (...)

    if you're going for shortcut keys, why bother with the win+C? just do win+S and get the search immediately.

    or even simpler if you have a keyboard... just tap the windows key and start typing. no need to use other shortcut keys.

    Right click on "On-Screen Keyboard" and pin to Start and/or Taskbar

    Now that full sized virtual KB is there for your use when needed. Not perfect but it may get you out of a pinch.
