microsoft surface GO 1901 with Dell WD15 docking station K17A

Dear all,

I have connected a tablet with a Dell docking station. My external monitor works, as well as the mouse and the printer.

But when it comes to connecting via USB an external portable hard disk (with or without power cable), I cannot see the directory on my tablet (the hard disk anyway turns on normally). The same happens even if I disconnect all the other devices.

What can it be?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Luca

    Hi Luca,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

It sounds like you're having trouble connecting an external portable hard disk to your Surface Go 2 via the Dell WD15 docking station. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:

    1. Direct Connection to Surface Go
    • As a test, connect the external hard disk directly to the USB-C port on the Surface Go itself, bypassing the docking station. This can help you determine whether the issue is with the dock or the hard disk. You may need another adapter for this.
    1. Check Disk Management
    • Go to Disk Management in Windows. Right-click the Start button and select Disk Management. See if the hard disk appears there. If it does, but it doesn’t have a drive letter assigned, you may need to assign one.
    1. Update Drivers and Firmware
    • Ensure that the firmware for the Dell WD15 docking station is up to date. You can check the Dell website for the latest drivers and firmware updates.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, there could be a compatibility issue with the docking station or the external hard disk itself. In that case, reaching out to Dell support or checking for any known issues with your specific model may be helpful.

Let me know if you need further assistance!

    Your Sincerely
