Does Microsoft Surface have GPS?

Simple question, cannot find the answer.  A couple of websites states that GPS is there, however I find nothing on www.surface.com.  The website that state that GPS is there have said that since june and I don't know how they would know?

There is no GPS on the Surface. It uses location services based on the internet connection.

As it's a WiFi only device, there is no GPS, but it does have location services as part of the operating system.

Hi,

Surface for Windows RT does not support an external GPS device such as the one you refer to.

Surface for Windows RT can look up your location based on WiFi signals in your vicinity, as long as the Surface is also Internet-connected.  Apps such as Maps or Weather, or web sites through Internet Explorer, can use this information.

Hello Myron,

Surface RT does not have GPS, however it does have Location Services which allows certain programs to know your location based on IP address.

Was there a specific app you needed to use with GPS?

    You proved our point.  We don't want to have to buy extra stuff, nor carry extra things. We want it to come in the tablet, out of the box.  Seems Microsoft has taken your approach too.  That's OK.  I'm sure they have part of the market. They just won't get us to cross over....and I am a PC person not a Mac/Apple type.

    We aren't whining.  We are just trying to get the message to them we aren't buying they way the Surface configured.  Their choice.  I have a product that meets nearly all my needs.  I just prefer something running Windows since I have so many PC's.

    We are hoping Microsoft will adjust and pull it off.....or eventually will.  The problem I see with Apple is they are unwilling to make changes to the iPad to give a few things it is lacking.  But its maps and driving aid, using the cellular connection is hard to beat.
