My line of thinking is honestly more driven to selfishness lol.
I am a developer and I do not want to waste the next couple years of my life learning / using a brand new framework for MS apps only to see no one using the app market and thus MS ends up pulling the plug on the technology.
If most people refuse to use the WinRT version and only use the full version then there is no incentive to create apps for the market, we might as well keep building legacy apps...which honestly would be a lot easier as we can keep on using the same development
styles we have had for years.
Personally though I WANT WinRT to Succeed. I would rather that instead of people getting upset that the WinRT model can't run their legacy apps...to instead let your voice be heard with those companies to release versions of their tool for the WinRT platform.
As mentioned before, there will be no incentive for those companies to create WinRT versions if people are not using the WinRT model anyway.
I looked it up a bit ago and it seems that there is a photoshop version for ipad, no reason why they can't do the same for WinRT.
I wonder if any mobile development platform MS creates is doomed to fail from the start, not because said platform isn't very good...but rather because it is a MS platform that people expect AND demand that it run just like what they have on their PC / Laptop.
Where are these same demands for every other tablet on the market? The Surface RT model is no less then the model for the other tablets on the market, as in app driven.
My wife has a Kindle Fire HD and she certainly cannot install any legacy apps on that but she still loves it for what it is, and that is a nice tablet.
Personally I am stoked about the Surface. It is a tablet that I can run MS Office from and that I have access to Xbox music(basically the music account I have been using for years, Zune) and I have access to all the windows store apps that I also have access
to on my PC, so I can use the same programs on both so long as I am willing to go the Windows store app route.
Even on my PC, I have been forcing myself to use the windows store apps as much as possible. If there is an app version of something I want to do, then I have installed it and done it that way.
I have been using the WinRT version of IE, and Windows mail as well.
It is just my own opinion, I just don't want WinRT to fail because people are not willing to give it a chance.
