Word 2016 always open in Side to Side view, even after changing it to Vertical view.

Recently, my Word 2016 had defaulted to scrolling between document pages side-to-side rather than vertically. I keep changing (under the View tab) the "page movement" to vertical, but each time I re-open Word, it defaults to side-to-side (see picture).

I don't understand why the sudden change, nor why Word won't "save" the last setting I have it on. Is there anyway to change the default to vertical and keep it that way?

Thanks

I had the same problem. You just need to add the key.

Exit out of Word.

In Regedit, find 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Word'

Add the key 'Last View', then in there add a D-Word 'WordViewStateUsePageStackArrangement', leave the value as the default (zero).

Restart Word.

Worked for me.

Note that Word 2013 and later do not support saving the view and and zoom to a template or document. What you can do is try MVP Jay Freedman's add-in SaveView2013.zip which can be downloaded from his web site at https://jay-freedman.info/.

I support one Surface Studio and have this issue. Changing the zoom to 120% does nothing. Cannot save this change to the normal template. Added the referenced key to the registry and deleted it...both with no change.

I have several users with 4k monitors and they do not have this issue. It seems to be localized to Surface Studio computers.

I'd love a solution so I don't have to hear this attorney whine anymore.

Very good, and thank you for starting a clear and much needed thread on the matter that will hopefully lead to resolving an obvious glitch

    Hi Paulwecc:

No misunderstanding; your workaround certainly alleviates the issue (and I'm going to be doing that for the time being), but I am hoping that Microsoft will be able to fully ameliorate it.

Thanks for clarifying, though! Appreciate it!
