Power Cover Not Charging 100% 0% 100% ???

I have the Surface Pro 1, bought the Power Cover almost 2 months ago and experienced the same issue. Tried so many things - connecting, disconnecting in 2 min. intervals, got it replaced and tried the same thing on the new one to no avail. I finally accepted the fact that it won't work as an extra battery but I kept using it as I would normally use a touch/type cover (kept it connected most of the time, used in desktop mode, tablet mode , etc.). Now, finally after 2 months (actually just now- it's status in "8% and charging"), it has started taking charge. I have read many posts where they said they kept using it and it finally started taking charge after some time - for some, it happened after a week and for others, it even took a month or a couple of months (in my case). So, you might not wanna try the surgical alternative (as explained in other comments) on your Power Cover unless you desperately need it to work soon. If you can wait, just forget that it can take charge and keep using it normally, and possibly, it'll start working sometime. It could not be a mere coincidence that it started taking charge as there are so many posts and users which/who had the same experience. However, the time varies in each case which could possibly depend upon the status for each Power Cover.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It is nice to know that there still may be hope for the power cover. I keep mine plugged in most of the time at my desk and am only disconnected when I'm a meeting room or reading / working during my daily commute. I have my fingers crossed that mine shows a legitimate charge one day soon!

Interesting, now I'm keen to open up a faulty unit and do some testing to see if I can see at what point the Surface is putting some power into the battery, then I could work out the quickest way to recover the battery without having to open it up.

Anybody have a faulty unit in Perth, Australia, that they would be happy to let me open up and do some testing?

I'm headed to Perth at the beginning of January from the US and I have the same problem with a Power Cover that I just purchased from Amazon.  Reading the experiences above, I'm not optimistic about returning it and getting a new one.  I hope I can get it fixed before flying there because I could really use the extra battery on the 24+ hour flight, but I'm not sure I will be able to, so I'd be more than happy to have you attempt surgery while I'm there for three weeks.

I wouldn't count on it. I sent mine in under warranty and still waiting. Over a month ago.
