WiFi deteriorates after closing the lid on Surface Book connected to Surface Dock

If I close the lid of my Surface Book while connected to a Surface Dock, WiFi speed will drop from 54 Mbps to as low as 1 Mpbs.  The WiFi router is an AT&T U-Verse Pace 3801 HGV and the power setting for close the lid while plugged in is Do Nothing.  I am taking this thing back to the store for a refund if it can't be fixed.

    Exact same issue here. Did several tests with ping/tracert. The ones below were repeatable as I opened and closed the lid. I've been pulling my hair out for the past 2 weeks ever since I hooked up an external monitor (which allowed me to close the lid) the wifi has been awful. My work has basically grounded to a halt while I completely redid the wi-fi in my house. 

    Also, for what it's worth, once I moved a wifi access point very close to my computer (about 1 foot), it started to be fast again. (The access point as my verizon cell phone on 4G LTE sharing its connection). My home wifi is maybe 10 meters and two walls away.

    Very compelling evidence.  Seems there is some sort of interference causing a delay in the Wifi packets when closed.  Perhaps there are magnets or other sources of electrostatic interference that are very close to the Wifi antenna with the Surface Book closed.  Anyone cracked one open?

    I've had to work with mine open all the time (but still using external monitors).

    RE:  Using a cell phone as a WiFi access point.  Same thing with me, sharing the connection with my Lumia 925 on the desk the signal stays strong and fast after closing the lid.  I also moved the whole set-up to the room where my regular WiFi is located and the signal is good even with the lid closed.  The conjecture is that you have to be very close to the access point to avoid the problem

    I’ve been told that Microsoft has reproduced this issue. Reproduction is the first step. It is unknown how long it will take to get to the root cause and look into a fix
