WiFi deteriorates after closing the lid on Surface Book connected to Surface Dock

If I close the lid of my Surface Book while connected to a Surface Dock, WiFi speed will drop from 54 Mbps to as low as 1 Mpbs.  The WiFi router is an AT&T U-Verse Pace 3801 HGV and the power setting for close the lid while plugged in is Do Nothing.  I am taking this thing back to the store for a refund if it can't be fixed.

    Same problem--but no surface dock involved. I'm connected to a display with Mini Displayport -> DVI cable.  I've done experimenting with various places in my wifi bubble with various devices.

    No question the poor wifi is connected to the Surface Book lid being completely closed. When it's almost shut---still no problem.

    Same problem. But Microsoft Support seemed like they had no idea this was an issue. I'm on my THIRD Surface Book replacement -- lid closes, huge degradation in wifi. 

    Did this problem ever get solved/acknowledged by Microsoft?

    There's no way for it to be "solved".  There's a magnet that causes the signal degradation.  The "fix" will be the next generation surface book as it's going to require a complete redesign.  I'm guessing it hasn't been "acknowledged" officially because they don't want the bad press on something that's a design issue and not something they can fix without doing a complete recall.

    I've been using the pen to prevent the lid from closing completely.  Works most of the time.
