WiFi deteriorates after closing the lid on Surface Book connected to Surface Dock

If I close the lid of my Surface Book while connected to a Surface Dock, WiFi speed will drop from 54 Mbps to as low as 1 Mpbs.  The WiFi router is an AT&T U-Verse Pace 3801 HGV and the power setting for close the lid while plugged in is Do Nothing.  I am taking this thing back to the store for a refund if it can't be fixed.

    same problem, drop the lid the wifi cuts out, solution

    plastic folder, cut a piece of plastic 4 inches x the width of the keyboard, place it on the track pad area, works a treat, a trackpad and palm guard may do the job too.

    but for a new high end item its not acceptable, a software or firmware solution may not be available, it could well be the magnetic closure interfearing with the wifi module i.e a design issue.

    Every other laptop in the market allows you to close the laptop and still be connected to wifi, the surface book has no reason to be different,

    And it will remain open forever.  It is a hardware design issue, too much metal around the antenna when the lid is closed.  The only way to get a semi-decent signal is to be very close to the access point.

    Design engineers must have been so dug in their own environment that they didn't realize that many people want an uncluttered work area with a big screen and the Book closed on top of the desk or on tray somewhere
