I own a Surface 2 and am wanting to know if RT devices will be getting the free upgrade to Windows 10?

Can anyone confirm (or otherwise) whether W10 will be available for Surface devices?
And, if so, how do we go about reserving it? There isn't any Windows icon on the right of my task bar.........

Not for devices that run the RT version of Windows like Surface RT and Surface 2.
There may be some W10 features available for these devices if you believe some of the third party tech sites. But not the full Windows 10.
If you have a Surface 2 and not a Surface Pro 2, then Windows 10 is NOT
available.

no they are not. there was a recent "upgrade" that added a Windows 10 like start
menu if you wanted that (you have to go in and enable it) but there will be NO
Windows 10 upgrade for RT.

In either case, you will still at least get updates and the RT will stay good for at least 7 years (maybe). The tablet will probably give out before then, though.
I did read an article at Softpedia.com last night where there may be a low budget tablet with the same dimensions of the Surface 2 but powered by the ATOM "Cherry Trail" CPU. This CPU is better than the "Bay Trail" and will do full screen HD video streaming flawlessly. PLUS, it runs cool. This particular tablet will be x86 and will run anything.
An official word of its existence should be released in the next BUILD conference in June or July. The fate of the RT models should be announced then also.
I can tell you that the i3 model of the Pro 3 has been an outstanding machine. I have had zero problems from it and the 12" screen is almost perfect. It is a lot cheaper than the other two models even when you add the keyboard and is almost as speedy as an i5. Those have been discounted at times and you can get that Pro 3 plus the keyboard for less than $1,000. The sound system is superior also. No need for external speakers (and stereo).
However, you can wait to see if the Surface 2 replacement actually comes available and the ATOM series CPUs they have now are real good performers. They do run cool also.
As for replies from Microsoft, the employees have a 'gag order' and are not allowed to talk about them even if they know. They are only allowed to talk about what is officially released. Most companies do that today.
